Francisco Liriano smoking through the minors

As soon as one of the current starters begins to struggle... they need to bring him back.

That... or they really need to decide which current starter could transform into a dominant bullpen guy for the rest of the year and bring him up.

Or bring him up and send down Boof and decide something from there.

It's gotta be Boof. He can't get it done. He lost weight and still sucks. I don't know if he'll dominate in the bullpen, but spotting the other team 5 or 6 runs makes it hard to win. He's out of options, so they can't send him down.

Also, Livan sucks. The only thing about him is that he eats innings and takes pressure off the bullpen. Would be surprised to see him come back with the team next year.

Ummm. Boof hasn't been in the rotation since the beginning of the season.

I'm not ready to give up on Boof yet. You can never have enough pitching.

There are sure to be teams out there that would take him, so maybe we can unload him for something.

Maybe they could package him with Cuddyer and a AA prospect or 2 to get Beltre out of Seattle. Beltre is a Gold Glove 3rd Baseman, and his right handed bat would be a great fit between the 2 lefties (Mauer & Morneau).

I am a moron.... I haven't heard much from him. I don't get to follow the Twins as closely as in the past. I listened to a game on the radio where he started..... It seemed like a couple weeks ago, but it was actually a couple of months ago....

I know we can't option Boof though for sure. We can try to trade him (no one will want him) or we can release him. He isn't make much so it won't be too much of a burden.

Livan shouldn't be in any kind of a rotation either, but I don't know if he's all that usefull in the pen and he hurts the team more than he helps probably....

Release Bonser, move Livan to the pen, and never use him.

I apologize for messing up on my Twins... Doesn't happen often (although I mess up plenty of other things lol)

I just wish Cuddyer would man up and play 3rd. He came up as in IF, and his batting stats are better for a 3b compared to an OF.

Plus we got Span who deserves to play every day. He shouldn't platoon or be in the minors... Stick him in RF instead

Not a fan of Beltre

After Cuddyer succeeded in RF, he finally admitted that he struggled at 3B because he is deaf in his left ear. Not a good situation when you can't hear what the SS is trying to tell you. He didn't say anything earlier because he believed that it would hurt his chances of making it in the big leagues. He will never go back to 3B.

BTW, there are now rumors floating around that the Twins are also pursuing Atkins, Blaylock, or Blake.

Cuddy has one of the best arms from RF in the majors. No way he gives up that spot. I love all the speed (Gomez, Casilla, Punto, and Span) but gotta give one of the OF up for some power when Cuddy comes back.

Alright then, well maybe Denard can play third base.

He's grabbing for straws and it's simply a play by his agent and Liriano to get more money.

He's basing it on the fact that he is fast approaching the deadline for his MLB service required to qualify for arbitration (3 years). I'm not sure the exact date, but if he doesn't come up soon he will have less than the 3 years and the Twins will most likely save $1 million in the '09 season.

I would see his point if the Twins were playing poorly right now and he wasn't called up. You can't exactly pull a starter from the rotation when you win 21 of 27 to close out the first half.

That and they wouldn't have brought him up in the beginning of the season if they had arbitration on their minds.

Get rid of Livan! Or put him and then pen and cut Brian Bass for the sake of God

Man we need Neshek back in the pen so bad

His first few starts in the minors were terrible. High pitch counts, lots of walks and hits allowed, etc. He's been good for the last 4-5 weeks but that is all.

I'm all for having him in the majors, when the team is 100% convinced he is ready.

It appears that day is coming. But this is the same guy who didn't tell the team his elbow was hurting back in 2006. How would it feel to let say Livan go to make room for Liriano and then have him flame out again?

The rotation is set for now....other guys have been stuck in the minors because there is no room in the majors. He needs to suck it up and deal with it. As always in baseball there will be an injury and he will get his shot. After making such a big deal out of this he better be ready.

No I know what you mean and I really doubt there's any way they let Hernandez go with the contract they signed him on at the beginning of the year, and I think he has more wins than any other starter. I just put his name out there because he seems to be the only starter that hasn't been progressing.

That and I hate Brian Bass with a passion and anything we could do to cut him would make my day

The pen gets a huge break when Livan pitches. He eats up inning and innings. Don't discount the effect that he and all of his experience have had on the young pitching staff.

I hear ya. Livan doesn't always have great stuff but he battles every outing.

It would scare me to have a rotation where the oldest guy is 26 or so. You need that salty veteran to show the young guys how to "pitch" not just "throw".

Plus that 60 mph curveball he throws is awesome.

Totally agree. I give Livan a lot of credit for being a mentor to the 4 young starters this year. Several have commented how he has helped them with the mental aspect of pitching. Liriano sounds like the least mature of the group and would benefit the most from being around Livan.

Liriano will be up soon enough I am sure. Of the Twins starters now, only Baker and Hernandez I believe have ever pitched over 200 innings in a season at any level, so there is a good chance one or more of the others will struggle the 2nd half. Then, you bring Liriano up to replace that pitcher, and maybe move that pitcher to the bullpen.

Sending Hernandez to the minors would be a cruel joke on the agent, who is the same one who is making all this fuss about Liriano. Can you imagine what Hernandez would do to that agent if he got sent down and Liriano was brought up because of pressure from the agent? lol. That would be worth the price of admission.

I think the Twins are right to bring Liriano along slowly. They rushed him out of Spring training and look what happened in his 3 starts. He is probably going to be really good, so just be patient. Next year, Slowey, Perkins, Liriano, Blackburn, and Baker. Not a bad rotation, and they will only get better I think.
