Fran losing multiple players!

Leaving would seem like a bad option for him now. I'd either roll the dice on being the only decent player on Iowa next year and putting up big numbers, or transfer somewhere bigger. He's always struck me as a guy who is being misused and could be an NBA level player in the right opportunity.
But he has his age going against him. If he plays another year of college, he will be 23 at next draft. We saw how that played out with Kane.

There's zero reason for him to stay.

Leaving is now looking like a no brainer and a decision made with foresight.

Make the league, get paid and hang in the G-League, go to Europe for a couple of years and make a lot of money, or stick around for the dumpster fire.

I don’t think being the best guy on a turd will help him any. He needs to give it a go on a good season in my view. Fran isn’t going to make him any better and he has a marginal shot at best. Being a year older probably won’t help either.

So with the gift of hindsight, Luka is what was holding everything together. Like most dysfunctional teams, they have internal conflicts with teammates and coaches.

It's becoming apparent that the only reason they stuck it out this year was to try to make a run with Luka. The party's over.

This team was built on a house of cards. Not sure how Fran recovers.

Having the best player in the country definitely covers a lot of warts.

I have a lot of Hawkeye fan friends on Facebook. I just shared the news. Today is going to be fun!

It's less about Weezy get drafted. More about him graduating early, getting married and not wanting to return for his senior year to a complete rebuild. He's a guy who if not drafted could either make a run at the G league or have a 10 year career in Europe making A LOT of money. I think he can be an NBA player. JUst has to get as far away from Fran as possible

His path would be like Thomas. Make great $$$ in Europe and if he's an absolute assassin from 3 he will get a serious look from the NBA. He's more athletic in transition/attacking basket than Thomas and better rebounder but I think he may have less skills as a playmaker, shooter and defender.

His bulk production would probably go up if he came back but his FG% would drop almost certainly and the risk of injury before getting even one basketball check...probably makes sense to leave.

The open looks will not be there this next year at Iowa, Garza did so much to give guys great looks from 3, maybe Weezy also realized this. Dude got doubled and even tripled, and was pretty good at kicking the ball out for the open 3. I am thinking guys are realizing that is not going to happen next year.

The current starting point guard at Iowa does not strike me as a guy who will be able to break down defenses and kick the ball. ISU fan saw first hand what happens when a team does not have a point guard who can break down opposing defenses

I also think Monte's age played more into his low draft position than his lack of size. He played through it, but he had to prove he wasn't already maxed out as a college senior and could still change and improve his game.

Same with Niang really, his age was probably as much a reason he was a late 2nd rounder who had to prove it vs his lack of athleticism.

Garza wasn't a black hole with the basketball. He took it to the basket or shot when he knew he had a high % opportunity. He passed before he forced things.

I think Fizer's junior year he was actually more dominant and unstoppable around the basket than Garza, Fizer just did not have the shooting range Garza has away from the rim. Yet Fizer would on occasion force things a little too much. ISU's elite 8 team made up for this by having 3 absolutely fantastic guards that could also create, shoot and move the basketball.

Same could be said for the Tinsley teams at ISU. Amazing how we dropped off so far so fast.

It was clear that 01 team had some warts behind the scenes. But I still remember 10 year old me expecting the big drop off the next year. Losing Tinsley, Horton, Shirley, Rancik, Evans all at once? Tough to keep momentum

And defend.
