Former Cyclone Arrested last night

I think we should push to get Veisheaed added to the law books in the city of Ames. Its just like a public intox but less severe because its understandable :)

Just make PI a civil ticket like a parking ticket or unruly house. Keep the fine the same, just have it be less of a "crime" on the books.

Not that a PI keeps anyone from getting a job, but still.

Especially since many are handed out when people are doing the "right" thing by not driving home.

The whole reasoning behind arresting someone for PI, is that they are a danger to themselves/others. So, making it a civil ticket would make the charge completely pointless.

However, it is far too subjective and is way more aggressively enforced over VEISHEA weekend than the other 362 days of the year. If the police have to carry you into jail because you are passed out on the street, than OK. Otherwise, let people go about their business and get home safely.

That should pretty much be how its always enforced. Usually, it is, but its an extremely subjective crime as written. You only have to appear intoxicated to be charged with it.

Drunk people wandering amongst traffic in the street, or the drunk ones wandering down the sidewalk and repeatedly falling off the curb into the street would seem to pose as much, if not more, danger than a stationary, passed out person.

I suspect it isn't so much that the law is way more aggresively enforced over VEISHEA weekend, as much as there are just way more drunk people wandering around posing danger...

I've heard of a lot of people getting public intox's for just simply walking alone on the sidewalk. Although 99% of people pose no danger to themselves by doing this, you do have your Abel's and John Lacina's.
