? for those with business degrees

I started out in fish and wildlife biology, and ended up with a marketing degree. Now I own a fishing accessory company. I guess both interests made sense in the long run.

The math in accounting isn't a problem. Simple algebra for the most part. It is the logic behind the math that screws you up.

IMO, don't waste your time with an undergraduate degree in Marketing (unless you want to do entry-level sales) or Management. A Marketing degree will not get you a job doing marketing, only sales, ..

I am a marketing grad working in marketing/graphic design. Although, you are somewhat correct. My fiancé and brother both graduated with Marketing degrees and both work at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. BUT they get 18 days vacation from day 1! :wideeyed:

Getting a business degree was the best decision I ever made. I have an OSCM and Marketing Degree... (OSCM is now rolled together with LSCM to create the SCM major I believe...) but there are ENDLESS opportunities to work with a supply chain management degree.

I interned as a production supervisor, I have worked as a industrial engineer, I've worked as a sourcing manager (purchasing products) and I'm currently working as a project manager in the purchasing world. Lots of options, my suggestion, a SCM major with some kind of a minor/second major (finance or management are my suggestions)

First of all, what kind of jobs outside of the business world are some of you working in? Basically, I'm still undecided as to what career I want, I just know that I want to finish my degree, but not in the criminal justice field where I've started. I'm also of the thinking that a business degree would be the best type of degree that would allow me to stay open as far as a career goes. Thoughts? Opinions?

I've got a business degree from Iowa State with a double major in MIS and marketing. I've now been a physical therapist for 7 years. As long as you get a degree and the right pre-reqs for grad school, you can go a lot of different directions.

just get your degree, then do what everyone else does and bartend/serve for a couple years outside of school and figure out what you want to do. Everyone hates their first couple jobs anyway and waiting tables in a big city at 23 is AWESOME. Then when you are about 25 start looking for a "real job". Unless you are one of those weirdos that is in a hurry to get marry and have kids by the time you are 24 at which point in time, stay in des moines, get an insurance job.

I'm a little past this stage as I am nearly 29 and married.

Maybe a Sport Management degree?
That's what i'm doing right now at Minnesota State... one of the top in the nation and one of only a few to be certified by some firm? idk...
only bad thing is.. long hours and you work behind the scenes, don't really get to be a fan anymore.

Business degrees are great from the point of view of job options, especially programs like general business, business administration and business management degrees. That’s because they provide a foundation in different business disciplines and skills like communication, leadership, strategic thinking, etc. that are applicable in a variety of industries. But you should go for a business program only if you are truly interested in it and not because it’s “theâ€￾ thing to do!
