"Of all the shadows cast over the game of basketball, his was the biggest" Knight, the coach at Indiana University
One of the coolest things I have ever experienced as a student at ISU was attending an ISU vs OSU basketball game in the Armory in the winter of 1969.
Henry Iba was coaching OSU (formerly Oklahoma A & M). He had just coached the 1968 US Olympic Basketball team to a Gold Medal finish in Sept or Oct of 1968. The public address announcer did a special mention of this before the starting lineups were announced. He asked Coach Iba to stand for a moment. The entire Armory stood an gave loud applause for well over 2 minutes. It was spine tingling. He finally had to ask the crowd to stop...and they wouldn't. They just continued to applaud.
He was loved and respected by anyone anywhere who knew anything about basketball or college basketball. He was an amazing coach and humble to a fault. And, he was OSU's and the Big 8's treasure. This is one reason I will always have a soft spot in my heart for OSU.
