If Ott truly does have a concussion and even if Ott says he's okay to play, it would be totally irresponsible for UI to play him. We all know that getting a concussion is not a good thing, but the worse thing is to be concussed again shortly after the original concussion. Two concussions in a short time frame could be dangerous to the kids long term health. To top it off he's a lineman who bangs heads all game. Maybe Ott should call UT's Ash and ask him how it worked out for him. That kid is screwed for the long term.

Is all we are going off of is the report that bystanders said he had "concussion like symptoms"? If thats the case, unless he crashed by the hospital and students were coming and going, Im going to wait for the actual report to come out (unless I may have missed it). Ferentz has never put a play in harms way like that, and theres probably zero chance he would do that now.

Edit to add: What happened with Ash? Im not aware of the story. Thanks

(I know it's 1 word I just wanted to be dramatic.)

Was concussed last season, play too soon and concussed again. Kid didn't really return and had problems all season with headaches, etc. Skip to this season, received yet another concussion is is out indefinitely. Kids health was put on the line for the sake of wins. One can overcome a concussion, but one after another quickly is really bad.

Ha thanks for the drama.

Thats a completely different situation... The work out that they did is the exact same work out that they have done in the past in the offseasons. I have two close friends who were on the the 2006 team that missed a bowl game, and they said they have done that workout before without any major problems. One of the issues they had was a few guys came back from break out of shape, which is what led to the hospitalization of at least one of the players. The player that had the kindey issues was just an unfortunate incident. Im not trying to down play it, cause it was a very serious situation, but the media, and rival coaches (im looking at you, D'antoni) blew it way out of proportion.

The other difference is Ferentz didnt put them through that workout knowing that they would get injured like that. As I mentioned, they have done the EXACT SAME program in the past without any problems. Plus, once he found out what had happened, he shut the injured players down, and changed the program.

The last thing Ill add is I know a few former players who saw what happened, and chuckled a bit. Not at someone getting hurt or anything, but that the workout was a common workout and multiple other teams lasted through it.

Also, thanks for the info on Ash. It makes sense. I thought that kid had a ton of promise, then just kind of disappeared.

What is it with Hawks and scooters?

Lol, I wish I knew man. I swear in the offseason (and i guess in season) of both the bball and fball programs, something fairly serious comes up. Ferentz addressed the issue a bit in his presser. He said the main reason is parking issues. He said the parking people in IC are as on top of their game as anyone he has seen, which I thought was pretty funny. Anyways, he said they do it for parking purposes. I love Iowa City a ton, but my god, I can think of a city that is worse for parking, and I lived in NYC and DC.

I know, I was just going with the first Cyclone-homer zing that popped in my head.

I honestly think that Ferentz, Ott, and Scherff will make the correct calls as far as playing is concerned. Scherff has a lot to lose with his NFL career on the horizon and will make the safe call not to risk further damage over 1 game. Ott will probably play if he's just dinged up.

Lol yeah, I figured. No biggie. Its not like Ferentz treats players differently based on their NFL chances, but one would think that Scherff stands to lose millions, and I have a hard time seeing Ferentz knowingly put him in harms way like that.

Same with Ott, not necissarily with the NFL standpoint, but just in general.

Just sell a kidney and you can afford to park at University Hospitals, where we send all of the poor people in the state.
