First Date

A movie in Campustown (The Varsity?) and then a pitcher of beer at the Library. The theater is no longer there, but the Library lives on as Welch Avenue Station. We’ve been married 43 years.

Went to a cool local restaurant in our town that was an old train depot. Our second date was playing pool at Stix or whatever it was/is called in the Des Moines area. We ended up playing doubles against another couple that we were pretty sure were swingers.

So based if those are the no goes, I wanna see a list of where to go?
Agreed. For a first date, the generic national chain restaurant seems to be ideal, no?

it's generally relatively inexpensive which is good for both if you want to pay for everything or if you're splitting the ticket, don't usually have to worry about waiting in line, these restaurants typically have a varied menu so don't have to worry about your date not finding anything they want to eat, and especially in blind date circumstances these types of restaurants work as good neutral territory and safe places.

I just saw a twitter post that got me thinking about my first date with my wife. Where did you go? Who paid?

We went to the Applebee's in Cedar Falls, I paid, and nearly 30 years later she still remembers what we both ate.

The women surveyed must enjoy going to strip clubs, dark alleys, and parents' basements on first dates.

Watched the Hangover 3 at the Mall of America and grabbed a desert crepe afterwards from the Magic Pan. When living in Bloomington we went to tons of movies on weekends and wandered the Mall people watching because it was a cheap date while we were in school.

We grabbed sushi, but what I'll remember is my future MIL made a multiple choice "test" to help me get a better feel for my future wife. Questions like sport(s) she played as a child mixed in with some light-hearted embarrassing stories from her youth. I'm sure it made my wife highly uncomfortable, but it made me fall for her (and her family) even more.

This is actually a great friday OT idea.

Gal here at work met a guy on Tinder (bumble? one of those) and he wanted to take her to Burger King for first date, so she said "no" and dropped him. Probably BOTH of them dodged a bullet there...

I mean I wouldn't go to any Burger King for any reason, so there's that.

The UNI library followed by pizza at the Pizza House, which was connected to the Stein. Took every bit of the $5.00 I had in my wallet for two slices of pizza and two sodas. Place was a complete **** hole.

I am sure she thought things couldn’t get any worse and everything would be looking up from there. That was 41 years ago and she hasn’t bailed yet.
