First Concert?

My first concert was the Michael Jackson Victory Tour, July 1984 at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville... Of course, I was six and slept through most of it, but a pretty good one to call your first!

Bachman Turner Overdrive 1975 in Madison WI. Thin Lizzy was on of the warm-up bands.

Best concerts:

1976 Kiss in Cedar Rapids
1978? Ted Nugent, Heart, Journey, Cheap Trick in Milwaukee
1979? Grateful Dead at the Cow Palace in SF
1981 Stones at UNI-dome, Stray Cats were warm-up

Question marks were a blurry time in my life.

I seem to recall some friends going to see REM on the ISU campus back in the early/mid 80's before they hit the mainstream. I seem to recall that one of my friends said the stage was backlit for all/most of the concert, so you could only see their silouttes. No idea if that is true but reading this thread triggered the memory.

First concert: parents took us to Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine back around 1986

Favorite concerts:
5. Eagles - Hell Freezes Over tour (~1997, Hilton)
4. Red Hot Chili Peppers (2013, Omaha)
3. Springsteen - Working on a Dream tour (2009, WFA)
2. Springsteen - Magic tour (2007, Minneapolis)
1. Lollapalooza, Iowa State Fairgrounds ~1996 (Metallica and Soundgarden)

HM to McCartney at "Cyclone Stadium", Prince, Tom Petty, Bon Jovi and that Eric Church acoustic set that I saw in Omaha two weeks ago.

Rise Against at the Myth in Minneapolis - 2009

I moshed, I crowd surfed, and some girl cut my forehead open with her fingernail.

Killer show.

I waver back and forth on Ryan Adams, but enjoyed him when I saw him.

I've seen him three times. My only complaint was that the last time I saw him he only played for just over an hour with no encore. And he does come off like he's doing everyone a huge favor just by showing up. He ****** off a lot of people at one show by threatening to take songs off his set list if someone shouted out a request for it.

I would like to see him, but he is a notorious *******. I read a review of a show he did in Iowa City several years ago. Apparently he ******* the whole time that he was irritable because he had quit smoking.

Weird Al was playing at Worlds of Fun during the "Eat It" Tour and we happened to be there. However, if you are counting my real first concert it would be Prince "Purple Rain" tour. Still one of the top 3 I have ever been to.

Yeah, I was there. And true to form he was very erratic between songs but when he and the cardinals were playing they killed it.

I got that impression, too. And go ahead and be the prima donna, but it's not like he's selling out Madison Square Garden or anything.

February 1996 Hilton Coliseum.

Ozzy Osbourne on the Ozzmosis tour with opening acts Korn and Deftones. As usual in HC it wasn't open seating so at the end of the encore when he did Crazy Train he told the people on the floor to go crazy and tear the place apart. They obliged and started ripping the floor chairs up and tossing them aside to create a makeshift mosh pit.

First show was Sting right after the break-up of The Police at the Five Seasons Center in Cedar Rapids.

A couple all-time favorites:
80's - REM at Palmer Auditorium in '87, and Oingo Boingo at the Col Ballroom.
90's - Bob Mould at the Fox Theater in Boulder, and Phish at Red Rocks
00's - Wilco at Red Rocks
10's - Ryan Adams in a tiny theater for 400 people. My Morning Jacket in 2012 at Red Rocks, Wilco at Vail Snow Daze.

At some point a thread could include the "Most disappointing show you ever attended".

I was there. Awesome show. As I remember it was Halloween night. Stood on our chairs pretty much the whole show. I couldn't believe such a big name were playing Palmer.

Sawyer Brown at the Civic Center in DSM. Right before they got huge for a while.

The best has to be Chris Ledoux in Liberal Kansas followed by AC/DC in Wells Fargo.

Ryan Adams played a great show in Stephen's about 5 years ago that I missed due to some stupid academic requirement or another, but ended up with a good copy of it.

His being such a complete and total ****** bag has lead to me listening to him less than I once did, although the Whiskeytown albums and Heartbreaker/Gold are some incredible pieces of music.

Was at that concert too. To this day Bon Jovi's Rouliette is one of my favorite songs....but never liked anything that followed their debut album. I knew they would be huge before long.
Roulette kicked ***....they were the reason I went.....I LOVED "BREAKOUT" on that disc.

First small concert: Goldfinger @ Cunningham's Journal, Kearney NE, 1999
First big concert: Aerosmith @ Omaha Civic, 1999

Top 3 shows:
Flaming Lips and the White Stripes @ Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, New Years Eve 2003/4
Dave Matthews (w/guest Neil Young)/Ben Harper @ Hilton Coliseum, Ames, 2003
My Morning Jacket @ Red Rocks (night 2), 2013

Goldfinger was ******* awesome live, seen them probably 3 times.

Sadly my first concert was when I was like 7 or 8 and my sister went to see New Kids on the Block at the state fair. I was taken along because it was cheaper than a babysitter.

That's the show where I saw him. It was definitely a good show, but you're right - he's a turd.

I'll respond because most of you won't even know the band and I implore young fanatics to look them up - Bay City Rollers as a kid in the 70's. Best concert ever was Green Day at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, 311 opened.
