First Concert?

Barry Manilow at Hilton in like 1980! I know you are all jealous!

Best was Pink Floyd at JTS. Don't think it will ever be possible to top that.

Saw Nine Inch Nails in (I think) 1993 at Carver Hawkeye as my first concert. I was in high school, and nothing compares to what I saw at that concert--both musically and audience. Don't know that I'll see anything like that again. Jim Rose Side Show and Marilyn Manson opened. That was some crazy stuff, too.

We stayed in a cheap Motel 6 that night. Later found out they are all like that!

I think the Register called it the Concert from Hell or something similar. Our parents wondered what they let us get into.

I think my first one was Ronnie Milsap at Worlds of Fun in 1978 (or so) when I was a kid. My mom used to take me to some shows here and there in the late 70s and early 80s when I was far too young to go myself. I saw the Bee Gees at Hilton around 1979 or 80 when they were the biggest group in the world. Saw Willie Nelson at Hilton around 1982. First autograph(s) I ever got from a concert was the Statler Brothers (seriously) in 1982.

Favorite shows that stand out to me in no particular order: Def Leppard Hysteria Tour, Mountain View CA; Lollapalooza (the second year when it was the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Ministry, Ice Cube, Soundgarden, Lush, & The Jesus and Mary Chain on the main stage), Mountain View, California; Duran Duran, 1993, Concord, CA; Barbara Mandrell, 1991, Santa Rosa, CA (she took my best friend up on stage, serenaded, waltzed around the stage with him, and gave him a video tape of it); Madonna Blonde Ambition Tour, Oakland, CA; Janet Jackson Rhythm Nation Tour, Sacramento, CA; Joe Satriani, 1990, Santa Rosa, CA; Bananarama, 1989, Santa Rosa, CA.

If we're going to go with BEST concert experience, that would have to be the Rolling Stones at Jack Trice back in 1989. Snuck down into the lower level with a couple of friends, close enough to be able to see Jagger's lips & Richard's wrinkles.

We stood so jam-packed together at the bottom of the southwest stairwell that we all moved as "one unit". The Fire Marshall would have had a field day with us!

I tell ya, though...55K+ voices singing Ruby Tuesday...it was an experience like no other.

First show was the Stray Cats at the DM Civic Center.

I worked on the tech crew in Hilton so I saw many shows in those days. REM (Green Tour), the Highwaymen, Prince, John Mellencamp, and Tom Petty stick out in my memory from those years. Hundreds of shows since, can't possibly begin to rank them. I will say Springsteen at Wrigley Field was great, I am not a Springsteen nut but he was just terrific. Eddie Vedder and Tom Morello sat in at various times throughout the night.

Top 5 concerts I've been to:
Rage Against the Machine - Alpine Valley '07
Drive-By Truckers - Englert Theatre (IC) '07
The Hold Steady - First Ave '10
Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals - Hilton '03
Dave Matthews Band/Ben Harper/My Morning Jacket - Hilton '04, featuring a surprise guest spot by the one and only Neil Young

My older brother has to been to a ton of concerts and seen a lot of great bands over the last 25 years. I asked him one time what was the best concert he had been too...he said Rage

Saw that one too. Had a guy in front of me smoking a bowl and randomly yelling, " It's the Stones man!" throughout the concert.

I was 8 years old.

Big Spring Jam Huntsville, Alabama 2001. 2 weeks after September 11.

Hoobastank (before they got big) opened up for Incubus.

I got a black eye, I crowd surfed, and my sister got in trouble for taking me.

I actually got every member of Hoobastank to autograph their CD they were handing out for me. When they got big, I actually put it on eBay and made $3,500 out of it.

First small concert: Goldfinger @ Cunningham's Journal, Kearney NE, 1999
First big concert: Aerosmith @ Omaha Civic, 1999

Top 3 shows:
Flaming Lips and the White Stripes @ Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, New Years Eve 2003/4
Dave Matthews (w/guest Neil Young)/Ben Harper @ Hilton Coliseum, Ames, 2003
My Morning Jacket @ Red Rocks (night 2), 2013

My first actual concert was Brooks and Dunn, Joe Nichols, and Josh Turner at the US Cellular Center. Don't remember what year that was though.

Top 3: Green Day at the iWireless Center, Seether at the fair in Monticello, and Bobaflex with Royal Bliss at the Pepsi Pavilion.

I love reading stuff like this! Forgot to mention Incubus in Cedar Rapids 2008ish, great concert! Brandon Boyd put on a hell of a show, so good that I lost a shoe. Also Three Doors Down in 2005ish, heck of a good show. Korn, US Cellular center in 99ish...first introduction to the KornKage.

Modest Mouse, Val Air Ballroom, 07.

They need to come out with another album.

Modest Mouse was better at 80/35 in 2010 IMO.

First concert was 1996 with headliner Bush, opening acts were Goo Goo Dolls and No Doubt.

Best concert was front row at Metallica in 1997.
