No, that's a red herring.
Our record against the North teams is awful, just like it is against the South teams.
Yes, we can win with this schedule. What other option do we have?
With competent coaching, we should have 6-7 wins this season.
You can say that again. Those who always trot out the "tough Big 12 schedule" selectively "forget" that CPR has lost to FCS teams and MAC teams, including last year and this year...
I've got a list of people who can win with this schedule:
Bill Snyder
Bob Stoops
Mike Gundy
Art Briles
Gary Patterson
Dana Holgorsen
We are a missed 32 yard FG and holding onto two 3 score 2nd half leads from being bowl eligible. People can win with this schedule.
No one is saying we have to win 8+ games per season...
Time to leave the Big 12 and join a mid major conference, that will allow us to win more.

I could not believe the coaching meltdown in several areas this year. And, admittedly, I was screaming 'fire him' after Saturday's debacle. However, after logically looking at this, I'm not sure we (ie the fans) are the main reason for this coaching carousel.
After PR let MM go, the team improved significantly. We, simply, needed a better 4th quarter mentality.
A new coach is going to have to start all over 'fostering' relations throughout Iowa. Not just the prospects, but the HS coaches and paying alums. The team will, likely, be going through yet another offensive scheme so don't expect too much from our young stars for a couple of years. Same for the defense. Those who think we'll get an immediate turnaround, are only kidding themselves. And, don't think, that a couple of horrendous (though our record does not reflect it, this season was much better than last) seasons due to settling in another new system won't have negative repercussions for recruiting. Not to mention the potential 'attrition' (ala Texas).
I know this is water under the bridge, but I've already come to terms with 'downside' of his firing. I just hope we hit it out of the park with a new coach. I was in school when we stole Johnny Orr from Michigan. Maybe we can do something like that in football too.

I agree there are downsides to firing Rhoads. But I think the upside is more wins. And that's the primary goal in all of this.
There are no valid excuses anymore in my opinion.
1. The talent gap in college athletics is a narrow as it as ever been.
2. Our facilities are on par or even better than other schools in the Big 12.
We are a decent coach away from a bowl game this year with the team we have on the field.
I just want to win games, and if we lose, it isn't because our coaching staff has their head's up their *****.

Getting dominated by FCS teams and losing games we dominated really kill your position. Stop with the red-herring, it's over.
They're on pace to win twice as many games as last year. Should have been retained.
...and that the Big 12 isn't SO good that winning a few games isn't out of the question.

If we (fans, administrators, players, etc) have this attitude, I'd rather end football altogether. Seriously. :realmad:

Yes, I honestly thought we would be in a bowl game next year based on performance throughout the games, current returning players, and recruited players.
Yes I know how important it is to play well in the last few minutes, so save the reminders, the fact is that we played well with some good teams this year and were "this close" to being bowl-eligible this year. I don't think things were going to get worse for next year . . . unless we started over with the coaching staff.
