FIRE HINES

And pure logic should tell you that you don't need a hotel room after you check out at Noon when your flight departs at 6 p.m. Maybe they were sleeping on luggage in the ballroom, but it wasn't during the night as Hines' makes it sound.

His main sources are disgruntled ex coaches, pretty irresponsible journalism.

and that negates them how exactly? if i were a reporter, i'd listen to ex coaches disgruntled or not...they would have zero to lose in speaking to a reporter under anonymity.

It doesn't negate them, but it should be taken in context.

The hotel thing is the best example of this. I can understand being annoyed by the issue. But what Travis implied was that the players were literally without a room for an overnight. They weren't. If they were so inclined they could have gone to the beach for those 3 hours. They could have gone to the pool for those 3 hours. They could have gone to a mall for those 3 hours. They were obviously tired and probably sore, so they didn't want to do that. It was probably annoying to not have a room to hang out in during that time. But life is full of annoyances and just because you are annoyed doesn't mean that somethign was handled completely wrong.

just too bad jamie and fred didn't want to comment on the record in the article.

Jamie said on M&A that Hines contacted Steve Malchow on Monday and wanted to talk to Jamie on Wednesday about a story coming out on Wednesday. Jamie declined since it felt to him the story was written already and wasn't going to change no matter what he said.

Did he seriously say that? That's a horrible...HORRIBLE response on Pollard's part. He has his chance, and just threw is arms up and said 'welp, it's already written so whatever...'. That is stupidity on his part for not finding out what was said and putting his thoughts into the story.

If Hines did that, the story was already written. Was this some hot breaking news (about something that happened months ago)? No reason why Hines couldn't wait an extra few days and get the full story.

If you believe for a second that Fred bolted to the Bulls because of Jamie, you're an idiot.

It isn't as black and white as you make it. Going on record in an article attacking you can back fire quickly. Reporters can spin what you said. They do it all the time.

Pollard is fighting to protect his job, Hines will be fine regardless, in this type of story you just can't release sources. But go ahead and support Pollard. Fred will support his boss regardless. Pollard does seem kind of stingy to me, Hilton does have green Pioneer logos at mid-court and that looks REAL NICE. Why would Fred interview at Minnesota when he has his dream job here at ISU? Maybe because he was undervalued and UNDERPAID??? You offer the mayor whatever he wants. I'm not saying Hines is great in this article but the man brought up some reason as to why the mayor left town, which the move surprised most all of us. You don't just leave Georges , Naz, and the rest of the team for NBA money, something had to have happened, and Hines wrote a story and what could have gone down. I don't question Hines integrity, what other story has he published that has been misleading?? Travis is a fine reporter and I will take his side on this issue.

Why would you give your quotes to a reporter you don't think is trustworthy for a story in which he isn't actually going to listen to your side of the story? Hines then gets to pick and choose which parts of your statement to put in the story. He would have made it a blurb at the bottom of the story, "Oh, by the way, Pollard says all that stuff isn't true."

Because the editor is his drinking buddy, Bobby LaGesse, and they just exponentially grew their views with one article. Hines is a good reporter, but this was his audition for a bigger and better publication, facts be damned. I don't mind the story. I hate how he framed the story.

His editor helped him write and source the article.......

This is literally the most defeatist first grade level logic I can think of.

why go pro now? Probably because he knew another shot at the Bulls would be 4-5 years down the road and he wouldn't be quite as hot of a commodity then most likely.
