Thought Kysen looked good at 125 and that’s seems locked down

Still think 133- thru 149 are unsettled regardless of tonight’s outcomes. 157 could be tight depending on injury, and 165 through heavy seem etched in stone (assuming Feldkamp will be good to go).

Side note, I’m halfway encouraged by that 184 match. Not for this year obviously, but those guys have futures. Helgeson looks like a potential 197 down the road.

I just wrote a long post blasting half of the team, but then took a breath and deleted it. Tonight was disappointing, but it’s early and things will turn around
I'm curious on your thoughts. You'll get blasted on here for being negative, but sometimes you seem to be the realistic voice among the overly optimistic. As an outsider that couldn't watch I thought the surprises indicated good depth other than 133. Seem to lack some depth in the upper weights for now.

Care to elaborate for those of us that were unable to watch/not as smart?
Assuming he was hoping Grice, Redding and Casey would win and is down on them since they lost (I don’t totally disagree).

However, I’ll take the glass half full approach that the Frosts are damn tough, Redding should be a 133, and Echemendia could be a top 15-20 guy at 149 if he sticks there.

I’ll start with the positive and then tell you my biggest concern.

Positive - Frosts are both super tough kids. To me, it doesn’t look like they have the talent/athleticism to AA right now. But, you wouldn’t have any concern with putting them out there and getting a great effort. I like them.

Yonger looks huge. Legit heavy.

Mj looked bigger. That bodes well as he has the talent to compete.

My biggest concern is Casey. He did not appear to have improved in his areas of weakness. No diversity in attacks outside of his snap to ankle pick. AE shut that down and all Casey could do was get mad and throw a tantrum. Also, didn’t show me anything on bottom against a guy who learned folk like 2 years ago. The positive here is that we do have Paniro who can hopefully come back

The guys doing play by play made it seem like the gambling situation (ISU and Iowa) got more bleak the past few days and that nobody would be let off easy like it looked recently.

I think these matches are always a bit difficult to evaluate given they see the same guys and feel them everyday in the room.
I agree whole heartedly. Even during a high school season you know what your workout partner is trying to do during live sessions. I can't imagine how comfortable you get with your college work out partners when you wrestle one another 10 outta 12 months

I was coming to join the conversation but Crablegs summed up the concerns. I love the scrappy type and those who can be explosive but there has to be a certain level of composure. I was really hoping to see that get honed in a little more come this season. Plus, I would have liked to see him open up more. I won't count today as my end-all be-all opinion of Casey but it wasn't my favorite thing! It was good to see Anthony on the mat.
