Oklahoma almost certainly would have been in the playoffs if they had played cupcakes in the non-conference instead of Ohio State and Houston. So much for earning your right to be in the playoffs by having a tough non-conference schedule. And now, the next thing to backfire will be the conference championship game as the team with the best record loses to a late bloomer and neither one go to the playoffs next year. The easiest route to the playoffs is to be a Power 5 team and stay undefeated with a soft non-conference schedule and no conference championship game.

With the perception of our Conference, nationally, this year the 3 top-20 teams isn't that surprising. I think KSU should be ranked as well, but it isn't shocking that they aren't on their either

Trying to determine the "ifs" is just ridiculous. The playoff committee is atrocious. The fact that tOSU was in the playoffs is a joke and should have only served to embarrass the committee. But the farce will be repeated yet again next year.

Certainly agree. Go look at their final rankings. Might as well just sort by record and then fan-base size. Football be damned.

Because regarding the playoff's primary purpose, which is a money grab, it seems to be functioning well...

Agreed. For all the talk about finding the best teams for the playoffs, it really comes down to two factors: win/loss record and national brand.

this. Although, I did hear that the ratings were pretty low compared to previous national title games. Still, they made a buttload of money

I had little interest in the game. Channeled flipped in late in the 1st half and saw it might be a good game and watched most of it after that.

Ironically the monster that is Alabama is the reason the ratings are down and they will probably play in 4 out of the next 5 title games. Not a great scenario.
