Has anyone had success fighting a speeding ticket against a Nevada cop? I went to court once in Des Moines where the trooper didn't show and the ticket got dismissed, but was wondering if Nevada cops usually show up or not.

This may be hearsay but I believe that PDs now assign an officer to be there no matter what if they have a case on the docket and it doesn't have to be the one who wrote the ticket. This is done to combat exactly what you were successful with once.

Were you speeding?

Got picked up at about 2:30 AM one night coming back to Ames. I was the ONLY car on the road at that time. Cop told me I was going 65, I knew I hadn't and asked to see his radar run. Went back and it read 59...he then STILL tried to write out the ticket for 65. Ended up with a 100+ dollar ticket for 59 in a 55.

He just wanted to pull me over regardless to check for Drinking, pot...etc.

Highway 69 near Huxley?

Nevada cops are well known for giving out speeding tickets for anyone going more than 2 over.

That being said, I've never heard them truly cheating someone out of a ticket.

(Not that that's the case here)

Unless you have something to actually use to defend yourself against the ticket, you're probably wasting your time and money. If there is a diversion option such as traffic school, use it. If not, pay up or move to another state and don't go back.

You're paying for your court costs either way. Your choice.

I had the exact same thing happen near Fayette at 2:30am, only I was going about 80mph it was after I'd gotten up at 4am the previous day to get on a flight that was delayed 10 hours because of a snow storm. All of this to get home for my grandma's funeral the next morning. We agreed that he got to write me a ticket and I got to be really ****** about it.

...so i guess not that same at all, but seriously it's 2:30am and there's about 5 miles of straight road ahead of me and zero other cars. It's not like he'd have to be the one to clean me up off the tree if I got a little loose coming around turn 4. Still ******.

I thought Nevada cops just sat there waiting for any out-of-state plates.

It's (1) a revenue-raiser for the city and department (2) those people are far less likely to be able to fight it and (3) no angry calls to local politicians about it.

It's a perversely lovely way of taxing people that can't hold you accountable.

How much over?
What were the conditions? (time of day and weather)
How many tickets have you gotten and how many in the last year?

I use to get pulled over a lot.
