Johnston played it pretty poorly (as she did with another similar ball earlier in the game) but you could definitely argue Hope should've come out for it. And yes, should have been a red card.

JJ is still pretty new to center back, so she is kind of learning at the highest level. That is an tough ball to play, and they kind of teach you to just put it out of bounds because a bouncing ball is a dangerous ball. Solo should have come off her line, but 1) i'm sure the turf has given them a few bounces and questions they have never had to deal with and perhaps the speed had her a little fooled 2) Solo stays on her line, she is very good at that and 3) the order goes:

Morgan
Julie Johnston
Sydney Laroux
Amy Rodriguez/Kelley Ohara
Hope Solo
the back up blond GK with the sleeve

i also think megan kilingenburg would be hot if she fixed that boy band hair.

That was all on Johnston. They popped it in from midfield and the ball took a huge bounce outside the box which Johnston misplayed and the German burned her big time. Great play by Germany. Except the ensuing pk Ha ha!

you are missing Christen Press in that list somewhere, I am not totally sure where she belongs, but she belongs.

Before this year England women hadn't won past the group stage. While it's a sad ending they exceeded expectations.
