Fennelly Gets Another One

Kelsey is a hard worker and a great student athlete. I am so happy she is going to ISU. She has been a high priority for a lot of coaches. Bluder tried to get her to commit after her freshman season.

Is she a guard?

Add Bolte in with the class coming in next year and we could have an embarrasment of riches in 5'11'' to 6'1'' guards. (Stirmlinger, Florzak, Lightbourne, Lacey, and Mossman.) That wouldn't be a bad problem to have. ;D

The article says wing. I only saw a couple games, but yes, she was playing a 2/3 type position.
I think it's says a lot about BCIG's coach that he was willing to use her like that.
She was one of the two tallest on the team and could have posted up against almost anyone they played in 2A.
She is comfortable handling the ball, has a nice shot, and is not afraid of contact.

We have our new Angie Welle...likely even better. She redshirted last year with surgery for a herniated disk. Rachel Pierson

Not to sound racist or anything but ISU does a really bad job of recruiting African American players. Look at the top womens teams in the Big 12 and across the country, their star players are usually athletic black females. We've had Desiree Francis, Nina Smith (who never played due to weight issues) and Sierra Dawson and that's all I can remember in recent years. While we recruit good midwest talent that can shoot we are usually the less athletic team on the floor against the powerhouse programs.

I love what we have done with the program considering there was a time when 50 people was all they drew to a game but would like to see us broaden our recruiting a little more. I know Ames, IA is not the most attractive place for top notch recruits but on a national level, ISU women's basketball has been fairly well-known in recent years.

Race has nothing to do with it, and lets not start a racism thread that pops up on other boards when someone makes a bad generalized statement regarding "athletes".

Bill has two black girls in his 2006 recruiting class. They are from Kirkwood JC and Las Vegas.

I'm not trying to start something like that. I think Bill does a great job but it's just an area where either we don't focus enough recruiting attention to or we just don't have the kind of program that the top recruits (who concidentally are usually African American) want to be a part of. This has nothing to do with racism because I'm not acusing anyone of it, just stating something I have noticed. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone or something is taking this the wrong way because that is not what I was implying in my original post.

Travis,

This thread started as a discussion about Bolte, who was a first-tier choice for a scholarship offer by coaches at Iowa State, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois, as well as 7 other Division I schools. Are you saying Fennelly shouldn't have recruited her because she's not black?
