Feb 5th - 6th Weather Thread

Sounds like 1 dead, 5 critically injured, and 70 vehicles involved in the pile up. Thank God they are fixing that intersection already.

Yikes. Usually those pileups don’t result in injuries, let alone deaths.

Not usually a high rate of fatalities i dont believe, but i think when it does its often a case where someone got hit when standing outside their car after their accident and another car came sliding in.

and somehow my classes didn't get canceled.

Earl would now like you to turn your attention to the end of the week. 16-20 inches of total accumulation?

National Weather Service just notes that Thursday through Sunday could be several systems that drop a little bit here and a little bit there. They mention snow, but not 16-20 inches. One to watch though.

I’ve always wondered how they deal with these massive pileups. I know the cars in the ditch stay there for s while but who takes the people home?

There was at least one business off the interstate near the crash that offered to shelter anyone who needed a place to stay. Would be just an office building type of setting but sure they could bring in food and other things as needed.

Anyone been out on 235 yet? Wondering whether my wife's Honda Accord will be able to make it from Des Moines to Ankeny or if I'll have to go get her.

I took backroads from downtown to Johnston. The metro is an absolute **** show right now. Cars stuck all over the place and people sliding into the ditch.

My Camry did fine going anywhere 25-45. Just drive safe and keep your distance from the car ahead of you and you should be okay. This was at 4, so it could be worse now.

Highway 69 wasn’t too bad.

1st St in Ankeny on the other hand...o_O

I was on 1st St coming from the diagonal this afternoon and it was by far the worst stretch of my 3 hour commute home today. I was driving through 8-12 inch drifts pretty well the whole stretch. The westbound lane was completely snowed on over. It surprised me when I got into Ankeny and not much had been touched yet at 2:00 or so.
