Hello my fellow cyclone fanaticers,
I'm looking for a little help on a federal law enforcement type of position. I've been looking to get into a law enforcement position, like state patrol then I thought "why not go into to a higher up position?"
Anyways I'm looking for any help with what agency is the best or somewhat easiest to get into. Also what degree would be best suited for these types of jobs?
Thanks!

What exactly do you want to do? Catch criminals? Probably criminal justice, maybe some sort of psychology degree (get in the mind of the killer type stuff). Want to be a NOC? Better brush up on being a badass and add some foreign language skills to the resume.

You can look at FBI jobs on their website. See what degrees they are looking for.

Dr. Richard Mansbach at Iowa State is a political science professor and he worked for the CIA for a while. I'm not sure if he had any other degrees besides political science though.

My dad is a police officer and he has friends working for a lot of federal and state law enforcement agencies. From what I've heard it's the experience that is more important than the degree. Your best bet is to find a job that will give you the skills necessary to work for one of those organizations.

My dad works in law enforcement, doing CSI type forensic work. According to him, if you want to work in a crime lab you need a hard science degree (chemistry, biology, physics, computer science, etc.). Criminal Justice is more suited for those who want to work for a police department. I imagine that something like psychology, poli-sci, etc will be higher demand for something like FBI/CIA. There might be work in data analysis, so something like statistics or econ could be good. I guess it depends whether you want to reign justice upon the unclean from behind a desk or behind a gun...
