FB ticket prices

While you sit in Iowa and complain about high ticket prices you can't even touch tickets to Auburn for less than about $50-$60 and those are in the nosebleed sections in the corners of the upper decks or in the lowest rows of the endzones. Enjoy the prices while you still can. When the team turns the corner the prices might move up accordingly.

I sympathize and empathize with the OP. If I had two kids and lived a couple hours away, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't make a practice of coming to Ames for FB either.

$120 doesn't seem like a lot?? Maybe if you've got it, it doesn't.

Good thing there isn't a loyalty threshold posters and ISU fans have to meet to express their opinions.

Hopefully, OP, all things related to ISU FB will get better for you.

I've got the money... it's not like I live paycheck to paycheck... but we are all faced with tough decisions. I'd like to be able to pay all my bills every month, put some money away for kids college, and put some away for retirement as well. I consider myself a very responsible person. I do spend money on entertainment as well. But driving 4 hours round trip is not very entertaining.

I'd love to support ISU athletics more than I already do. The entire question becomes... for how many people is it worth it to spend $120+ and 10-12 hours of your Saturday? If the stadium is packed, then it is obviously worth it to enough people. If it is not, then it isn't... and something else needs to be done to attract people to the game. You either have to have a better product, better facilities, more entertainment, lower prices, etc?

We shall see. I actually hope I'm dead wrong about this. I hope the stadium is packed for that first game and throught the entire season. It will only be good for ISU athletics if it is.... and it will mean JP can raise prices next year too and make more money for the program... I'm all for that!

Hey guys! I'm just wondering if I have a right to complain about ticket prices if I donate to the NCC and only buy hillside seats? Or is that just reserved to people that buy permanent seating?

I would guess that $10 for a ticket would be pretty hard to find anywhere in a BCS conference stadium. I pay $5 to go to my local 3A high school game on a Friday night. If you think we would have 55,000 for a game against NDSU with cheaper hillside prices you are dreaming. There are only so many people that want to sit there and most of them that I have spoke to think the pricing is pretty decent.

Best way to complain is to not buy.
That being said I would kill to go to ISU games on a regular basis again, and I think the tickets are still very cheap!
For the price of a ticket you get some of the best entertainment on a Saturday that can be found anywhere in the state of Iowa.

Would you not agree with the fact that selling a seat for $5 beats not selling it at all?

Going to a football game isn't a right. It is a privilege. Unfortunately some people can afford it and some can't. If it is really important to somebody to go I would think they would save their money and budget in the expense of tickets. If they still can't afford it, life isn't fair. I would love to go to 15-20 Yankee games a year but I can't afford the tickets and travel.

The game is 3-4 hours long so you don't have to invest 12 hours on a Saturday. If most of that is driving time that is too bad. It is your choice to live 4 hours away. Should ticket prices be cheaper for people who drive farther? I would love that because I have to drive 3+ hours each way.

I know the OP is crying about a single game, but do you realize season hillside tickets are only $99...$99!

That's what I buy and i get a perfect view of the field from the 30 yard line, halfway up the upper deck.

There are tickets for every game (except Iowa) listed for under $20 on stubhub. That will help your budget. There are deals out there.

You still aren't answering the question.

If JP could sell a seat for $5 to someone instead of that seat being empty for the game.... is that not better for him? Yes or No?

I'm not crying in my beer about not being able to go to a game. It's not worth the cost to bring my entire family, but it doesn't really matter to me that much. However... if the hillsides are nearly empty for that first game, then I think it's too bad that my family and I couldn't have been there for half the price to cheer for my alma mater and those guys on the field. Plus, we'd pay for parking and probably a few drinks and snacks as well. But instead, JP gets nothing from me.

Again... my point is completely moot if the place is packed full. I hope it is.

Why is it limited to a Thursday night game? Everyone knows the place won't be packed because it is on a Thursday night. I think a better judgment call could be made on the third weekend of the year than the first two.

Guess what? Our budget is still ridiculously low compared to our competition.

Our budget may be low, but it's not because of ticket prices. I just checked single game ticket prices and we have the 2nd highest prices of all teams in the Big 12 North.

Here are single game ticket prices, disregarding hillsides and other standing room only, non-seat prices:

#1 Nebraska
$55 for all nonconference games, $65 for all conference games

#2 ISU
$40 for NDSU & Army, $60 for conference games, tickets not on sale for Iowa

#3 Kansas
$40 for all nonconfrence games, $45 for ISU, Oklahoma, $60 for Nebraska & Missouri (in KC)

#4 Missouri
$39 for Furman, $44 for Bowling Green, $52 for Baylor and ISU, tickets not on sale for Nebraska & Texas

#5 Colorado:
$30, $50, $65, $85, or $105 for all nonconference games; $50, $60, $75, $100, or $120 for all conference games

#6 Kansas State:
$20, $35, or 4 for $75 for all nonconference games, $35, $55, or 4 for $99 for all conference games exc. Kansas, $75 for Kansas

Ecclesiastes 7:10

Do not say, "Why were the old days better than these?"
For it is not wise to ask such questions.

I agree with you though. College sports are in a different semi-pro era. Ticket prices suck balls but they haven't gotten bad enough to keep my wife and I away. We're quickly getting there though for me.

At the same time, I honestly don't think we're going to see a spike like we have again though.

However, high prices are the reason that I only get hillsides instead of bleacher seats.

Well we won't for a while anyway, people would go ape if ticket prices were raised again in this economy.

Would you not agree with the fact that selling a seat for $5 beats not selling it at all?

The only way they should do a $5 ticket is if you walk up and buy it 1 hour or less before the game. Even then I'm not sure it's a good idea. Most people that will pay $5 for a game will pay a little more.

If you are going to post all those prices they aren't very convincing for ISU being second highest. You can't pick the cheapest price and sort by that. If you average those with pricing options out ISU drops in the list pretty fast.

No way can anyone say having less people in the seats is a better option. Empty seats don’t by parking, drinks or food. You ether take a small loss on the ticket and make it up on the rest or you just eat the ticket and get nothing (hopefully it taste good). I understand supply and demand but it’s not really that. If you discount seat people will buy them up. It’s like when something goes on sale at the store. Even if you usually don’t buy it you still will think about it just because it’s such a great deal.

The “Controlâ€
