FB Recruiting Avg Rating Comparison

So in general
Shoptalk: I am smart and you are stupid. I don't like you guys because you were mean. Screw you guys I'm going home. Texas rules. Did I miss anything?

I will miss him. There is a thin line between love and hate and I'm sure he really loves me. I think Texass is a great state. In fact, if I'm still alive when our government totally fails I'm taking my guns and moving to TEXASS. I will have to root for Texass Tech though, because I can't get my fingers to do that horn thing.

You will fit right in here. Open carry is about to go into effect here this month. I also root for Tech since my daughter graduated from there.

This does not take into account player development, that in general ISU has sucked at under CPR. Case in point, Iowa classes over the past few years have been only slightly better than ISUs, yet they were in the talk for NC game just a few weeks ago, and would still be if they had stopped MSU at the goal line. So, Iowa is way better at finding undervalued player or developing those players, or most likely both. Also, it is a little early to compare this year's class in the Big 12, with the new coaches in place for less than 2 months.

Also, it looks like 2013 and 2014 were good recruiting classes for ISU, yet the 2014 and 2015 seasons were two of the most disappointing under CPR.

Meh, if we had Iowa's schedule we would be bowling or going to a good bowl. This year isn't a good example.

This might get buried but I really disagree with OP that our facility upgrades aren't improving recruiting.

I think you can see a very positive trend in that recruiting data, and you can see it correlate to attendance as well. Also I think OP is acting like a 3 point increase in 247 composite rating is nothing. The difference between ISU right now and Baylor's #1 class in the B12 is 6.6 points. If we added 3 more points on top of what we have now, we'd be 4th in the B12 instead of 8th.

And all of that begins as ISU improves facilities.

I made some VERY crappy excel graphs and added some even worse paint notes and put them in this IMGR album.

Red lines stand for new coaches first years, yellow lines stand for the year AFTER we added wider concourses, the new Football Facility, and the SEZ.

I also put the attendance and recruiting rankings in there twice as I figured a trendline might be nice.

But you can clearly see that while our regular season record is trending down, if anything, that our recruiting is only getting better and that goes hand in hand with facilities. And those facilities go hand in hand with increased attendance which boosts recruiting.

And I think it's safe to say recruiting has not been a strong point for either Chizik or Rhoads' staffs.

Nice work on the plots. They are more inciteful than average player rating.

Look at how much a player like Cam Newton meant to Auburn. A playmaker like that has a bigger impact on a team than the amount he raises the average indicates.

In Summary:

  1. Bottom of the league talent will not prevail. CMC recruiting is not substantially different than prior head coaches to date.
  2. Win 7-8 games with this mediocre approach per year or go away. Fans are tired of same old propaganda.
  3. ISU just became the MAC/BIG10 version of B12 football. Eww.
  4. Knocking your number one recruiting base of Texas and being biased about Texas is so, so stupid and damaging to recruiting - all to get at someone you disagree with? Dumb is dumb. Having your internet CMC cheerleader self-professed "coach" leading the smack talk? Epic stupid.
  5. This thread sums up nicely this hire and the future direction of ISU FB. And shines a helpful spotlight on the true nature of the fanbase. Rabid would fit.
  6. Vilifying me doesn't change a thing and it won't make you feel any better about it when Campbell wins two to four games next year and looks just about as inept as prior staffs.
  7. Talent wins games far, far more than coaches. Doesn't support increasing salaries and coach worship types, but it's true. Saban in NFL? Couldn't cut it. Put him at a school that always gets the nations top recruits and he wins. Same for Kiffin, same for CMC.
  8. Responding to vile stupidity is stupid and won't change anything. I'm here, but there hasn't been a substantive argument that holds water offered to date.
  9. What I am "so miserable" about is the ISU FB groundhog day. So I tried something different and I changed the dialogue. Successfully. And I'm willing to stand before the internet firing squad and say you missed. The point that is.
  10. Ayeni recruits well because he is what players want for a coach - a young, ex-NFL player who can lead them or position them best for an NFL shot. Get a whole staff like that and recruiting may change.
  11. My now large following of detractors have taken over speaking for me saying I said ISU FB should be shut down. I didn't say that or think that. They did. I said expecting different results with the same recruiting outcomes of last in league is the definition of insanity, or delusion as I said. Time will tell who's right, not that it really matters.
  12. I did say earlier I hope I was wrong. Don't feel that way at all any more. Thanks for that. And I too am glad I'm not in Iowa, CO, HI, OH around any of these types of fans.
  13. Hey, you guys remember that guy you called out as a horrible Mensa coach who couldn't get it done? Well, he's doing real well down in Houston. He'll be playing in a big bowl game. Bet he and S&C coach are REAL happy to leave Iowa and Ohio in the rear view mirror. But they won't say that. Because they're smarter than that.
  14. CMC: If going to "work out" and "squat" in a video, use proper form and put at least 450 pounds on there. I could do that in HS. Where was Ayeni? He can lift. The rest of you guys? DIII. IF this staff succeeds, it will be because of Ayeni more than anything imo. And Coach Rhoads poached him, but didn't have enough time to see it to fruition.
  15. Jim Kelly, Tim Kelly, Jeff Kelly, Ralph Kelly. Such an obvious choice for a school named the Fighting Irish. Just stay away from the practice videotaper job listing. It's a killer.
  16. Kelly, Briles, Harbaugh - all said no thanks according to posters. That's even worse isn't it?
I just got a little dumber reading this.

Just so I'm understanding correctly, the OP is already calling Campbell a failure 4 weeks into the job? That's fantastic, really. Who knows if he'll succeed or fail, but not even giving the guy a month on the job when he's literally changed every negative aspect of the program is, to be nice, shortsighted. He's already moved the class ranking up 20 spots from where it was when he took over and is nowhere near done. Brilliant strategy to go ahead and make the assumption he's going to fail based on nothing substantial. You must be a real joy outside of this place.

Really, if someone has an attitude that hopeless before even the first practice, they probably shouldn't be a fan. Either pick a new team or stop paying attention during FB season.

Never, I repeat never go for Tech (unless they're playing Iowa). Tech = worst home fans in the conference. Anyone else get hit by batteries, coins, water bottles, etc from the tech fans on past trips to Lubbock?

This class will be ranked higher than any class we've had when it's done. Avg rating will also be highest. Keep in mind this is also a class of needs as well. We will prob sign 4-5 TEs. Not a lot of mid to high level 3 star TEs out there. Also a long snapper. Have to have it. Avg rating is one barometer no doubt but it's not only important factor.

No it won't. It isn't close to the best class ISU has had.
Avg rating is good to look at bc amount of recruits will increase team ranking even if you have mostly 2 stars.

According to the chart posted by Jsievers24, if we can land that 4 star that just de-committed from Michigan and a couple more high level 3 stars we could very easily have the best class we have had in the last 15 years.

On paper, I would imagine the 2002 class would be the best we've ever had. Multiple 4 star guys in that class. Of course, none of them actually made it to campus (Stevie Hicks and Flynn did) and ultimately that class probably cost Mac his job.

Ranked 30th overall by Rivals.

Wow. Austin Flynn a 4-star QB. And Waye Terry a 3-star QB. Nick Leaders a 2-star DT.

They were awful QB's. Leaders was a great DT. Those ratings were way off.
