FB Facility Update

You're basing this off of a design that a CF poster sketched up. We have no idea if that is how/where the building is being built. I guess we'll see, but I would put money on the fact that there isn't going to be a tunnel through the hill and obviously it isn't going to be a cellar door opening. Don't take it so personally.

LOL, not sure where I was taking it personally! I'm just going by process of elimination...they can't really expand the Jake, they can't bulldoze the Olsen while it's still in use, they want to be connected to the IPF. That pretty much leaves 85W.

If it is going to 85W, then the next question is how to get the players to the field on gameday. The Olsen Building doesn't have a basement, so you are either looking at connecting to the basement of the Jake or going right through that hillside. The hillside is the most direct route and probably cheaper than connecting to a building. Obviously there won't be a cellar door, but it WOULD be cool. Imagine if they backlight the tunnel in red and let out a bunch of bats when the players got there like they were straight out of hell!

epic. no need for jimlad here.

I really dont like the tunnel through the hill idea. I'm sure they can come up with something that looks a little nicer then that.

Or maybe go for more of a tribal look:

I think the first was better isuaggie. This one blocks the entrance to 85W's parking lot.

:spinny:

Okay My thought is the tunnel will connect to the Jake is some form or fashion. The team will still come out of the Jake when they take the field.

Is this not possible??

Here's an updated design. Enjoy!

No offense but I'm really not envisioning it that way. I think it will be a two story flat roof building. I'm not digging these Bergstrom roof look alikes. Trying to imitate the Bergstrom roof will just make it look funny. Also I think the building will be more of a east/west building than a north south.

I can see the tunnel exit looking more like yours though.

Yeah, I liked the E/W one better but had some reps that suggested N/S was the current plan so I did one for fun. The curved roof does look odd next to the Berg but I wanted to see if I could do it.

Really. That does not seem like a good move to me but I'm probably missing something. I'm sure the AD has thought this though.

Having a new football only facility will be nice, but there's no way to add it without it looking halfway decent IMO.

As I've said numerous times.... when we built the Jacobsen building we screwed up everything IMO. That was just a horrible move. From now on, everything will look tacked on instead of conforming. The new scoreboard is going to look silly, but we need to do it. Same with this building.

Scoreboard going to look silly!?!? Are you the guy that sits behind me at every home game and complains the whole time?

Nope.

But you're crazy if you think the scoreboard will look like it was meant to be there from the beginning. It will look like one of those amber alert signs over the freeway. It will be nice to have, but it will definately look out of place.

It actually would look best sitting atop the bowled in south endzone, but of course we can't wait for that to happen, so we're stuck.

As far as the new football complex... I think we definately need one, but I'm not sure I like the idea of a tunnel through the hillside. As far as elevation goes, where exactly will this new building sit compared to the field level? When you walk out of this new complex, is it still downhill to the field level, assuming there's no hillside there at all?

If so, why not just build a ramp down to the field and have the players come down it kind of like they do in the endzone at Clemson? Does that make sense?

Here's what Clemson's looks like. Maybe we could do something similar down that northwest hillside?

I actually don't hate the idea of them running down the hillside like that. It would be sort of neat.
It would be neat, but its not practical. That would mean they would have to walk up the hill to run down it. Not to mention the hill is at a weird angle.
