Favorite/Worst Cover Songs

You can start by going to ths list. Couldn't disagree with any....
Rolling Stone Readers Choose the Worst Cover Songs of All Time Pictures | Rolling Stone

It's never a good idea to do a recording of a true classic. Some pull it off (Live and Let Die by GNR or All Along the Watchtower by Hendrix) and others fail miserably (those on this list and so many others).

I'm going to have to disagree with Alien Ant Farm's cover of Smooth Criminal on that list. Better than the original.

Cover Songs I Like (In no particular order):
- Five Finger Death Punch, Covering Bad Company's "Bad Company".
- Johnny Cash, Covering Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt".
- Limp Bizkit, Covering The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes".
- Nonpoint, Covering Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight".
- A Perfect Circle, Covering John Lennon's "Imagine".
- Alien Ant Farm, COvering Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal".

Cover Songs I Don't Like:
- Does Limp Bizkit's cover of George Michael's "Faith" really even count as a Cover Song?

I don't understand this. It's the exact same almost. I expect a cover to be unique in itself and this only sounds good because it's almost the same as the original which was good.

Good:
"Bad Company" 5FDP's version is better.
"Behind Blue Eyes" with Limp Bizkit is better than the original.
"Smooth Criminal" being covered by Alien Ant Farm helped it.
"Land of Confusion" is solid by both Genesis and Disturbed.

Others:
"You Shook Me All Night Long" being covered by Big & Rich (IIRC) is ******* terrible.
"Satisfaction" being covered by Devo was terrible (And I'm not a Stones fan).

Limp Bizkit's "Behind Blue Eyes" has to be one of the WORST covers ever.

It's the same except it has that bizarre/annoying speak-n-spell bridge in the middle.

Anything on the Soundtrack to the Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Movie album was pretty bad. I have managed to block out most of them. I do remember a bad version on there by Peter Frampton and the BeeGees versions just didn't cut it. Hard to top a Beatles song, but I do admit I like the Elton John version of Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds better than the Beatles version; but I never really liked that song so much to start with.

I sorta enjoyed the Devo version of Satisfaction. Definitely put a different spin on it.

Flying Lizards version of Money is weird/bizarre. Even more so than the Devo Satisfaction.

Not a fan of the Dixie Chicks but their version of Landslide was nice.

Also the K. D. Lang version of Roy Orbison's Crying is right up there.

Lastly, I like the Cryan Shames' version of Up on the Roof - also Jane Olivor did an outstanding version of He's So Fine.

The Black Crowes did a good cover of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds on the I am Sam soundtrack.

Interesting, I came into this thread specifically to place that piece of **** by Alient Ant Farm on the worst covers list.
