In light of the passing of Prince and seeing his performance of 'My Guitar Gently Weeps', it got my thinking to some of my other favorite guitar solo's. Too many to list, but Stevie Ray Vaughn's Texas Flood is up there for me

Since Texas Flood was already taken, I'd have to go with Angus Young's solo during "Let There Be Rock"

Clapton on Crossroads or Hendrix on Watchtower have always been my favorite recorded solos. The Hendrix one is so great because it's 3 completely different solos that still somehow fit together. The Clapton one is the definition of fusing blues and rock.

Normally I wouldn't go with something link this but Lenny Kravitz shreds it on Are you Gonna Go My Way.

Lenny Kravitz's first two albums are absolutely freaking amazing. I've listened to them countless times, maybe they're a little derivative but those albums sit next to my Clapton, Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. Sadly it was pretty disappointing after those two. I'd definitely put that solo you mentioned up with just about anything.

I could probably keep going. I'm not listing people like Buddy Guy or Slash or David Gillmore or Duane Allman or Warren Haynes or Stevie Ray Vaughn or Joe Bonamassa or Kenny Wayne Shepherd or BB King or Bonnie Raitt or Leadbelly or Jeff Beck or Elmore Hayes or John Lee Hooker or Billy Gibbons or John Mayer or Blind Willie Johnson or Orianthi or Gatemouth or....

you know what, I'll leave some room for other people.

I wholeheartedly support “Marquee Moon†and “My Sharona.â€

Also, I have a renewed appreciation for “Highway Star†solo break.

Here are a couple solos that will never be in Lead Guitar Hall of Fame, but each still works for me in its context. And the thread title is "favorites," not "technical proficiency," so it counts.

“Shock Me,†Ace Frehley, Kiss (from “Alive IIâ€) (2 separate guitar-solo sections) --- 2:00 and roughly 3:45

“Down By The River,â€
Neil Young (from “Everybody Knows This is Nowhere").
Lead break starts wherever it begins. :)
