Favorite 80s Tunes

Someone mentioned Springstein's "Born in the USA". I was on the Ag travel course in '85. We stayed in a international hotel (no locals, only people hard currency) where they let us bring our own music. We were too immature to realize that belting out the lyrics to everysong on that CD in the bar probably helped with the ugly American syndrome...

Dude- you had a CD back in 85?

What about Air Supply. All out of Love.
If it is good enough to be on the Family Guy it is good enough for me

And "Sailing Away" by Styx is good enough for Eric Cartman! Classic episode!

Great song! I have tried unsuccessfully to download this song onto my IPOD. It is nowhere to be found digitally. What gives? You can find the Violent Femmes and many other "oldies" (God, I hate to say that!) online digitally but for some reason not Turning Japanese by the Vapors. Can anyone help me out here?

not sure it will help, but they have a myspace page.

How about a little love for Gone Daddy Gone and Add It Up! The Femmes were from Milwaukee...correct?

Correct!! Tell him what he's won Bob.

I liked the Replacements:

Seen your video.
We Don't want to know.
That phony Rock N' Roll!!

PS: I hope no one mentioned Milli Vanilli!!

Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives Me Crazy
Big Country - In a Big Country
Talking Heads - This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)

What about the Thundercats theme song,
Thundercats and on the move
Thundercats are loose.....
Thundercats HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Nice pull with The Cult. "She sells sanctuary" makes a welcome cameo in the movie Layer Cake with a pre-Bond Daniel Craig. Really propels that particular scene.

PM me Silver, I just downloaded it for ya.

Wait that is illegal Bad Brian Bad Brian...just don't tell the RIAA.

I liked that song even better when I learned what the phrase "Turning Japanese" implies.:dull8ay: It's a bit obscure, but I bet some in this crowd have heard of it.

I didn't learn what it was referring to until I was about 19. Much like the Cake song "The Distance".

Impressed and a bit stunned that the first (and very prompt, I must say) response to the salacious nature of the aforementioned song comes from one of the few women on the board. Kudos, Angie! (you dirty bird):biggrin9gp:

LOL - well, there goes my good name... :wink0st: Your post made me laugh, which is why I had responded so quickly (self-defense!!!).

What?! No Prince??

No doubt. Being that I celebrate his entire catalog, I stenuously concur. Although, I'm more partial to Sign o' the times and Parade (listening to it right now) than to Purple Rain. I don't know that I could pick just one favorite, but if I did, it would most certainly come from among this group: Paisley Park, Lady Cab Driver, Baby I'm A Star, Alphabet St, Girls & Boys, Do U Lie?, Sometimes It Snows In April, Strange Relationship, The Ballad of Dorothy Parker or Play In The Sunshine.

Seriously, how good was your name anyway?

And, flat out, the best song out of the 80's, Michael Jackson with Billy Jean. (everyone please nod with agreement.)

Really not that good. ;)

I do love that song - I love the Vincent Price rap on "Thriller", though. Not sure which one wins...

How in Cy's name could nobody have mentioned anything and everything by The Cure?? C'mon, Boys Don't Cry.....
Journey - Ask The Lonely (Air Keyboard at parties for the win!)
and wait, "The Distance" has a hidden meaning? hmmm.... You just gave me something to ponder Angie....

And for whoever was asking, my first concert was KISS at the 5 Seasons Center in CR for their FIRST Farewell tour. (Yes, I am only 20 and KISS is the greatest band of all time to me)
