Fans? What the hell is wrong with people?

No sense in coddling a seven figure coach - put him on the hot seat!

You think we outta at least let his own recruits become juniors and seniors before we think about throwing him under the bus? Yes, Mac left some talent on the shelf when he left, but who knows whether that talent is compatible with the system Chizik runs. I say let's let Chizik bring in his own guys and 3-4 years down the line we can judge him. Let's not judge him after his first performance - remember, this is also his very first game as a head coach.

Now I hope everyone really understands how questionable the Dan McCarney era was. In the past, I heard alot of: Dan started with nothing, laid a good foundation, worked hard, made the program competive, ran a clean, honest program, went to bowl games, and recruited well. Now I guess we have to give the new staff plenty of time to get Dan's "mess'' straightened out. I've have a lot of patience since I've had season tickets since 1975.

Let's face is Chizik is here to stay for a while. Winners don't make excuses and he didn't. I like that. Instead of looking forward to two or three years from now, why not try to find a way to win this season? If it means no-huddle offenses, kickers from the soccer team or whatever.... time to figure out a way to win.

I'm all for winning this season - some unrealistic fans are already willing to throw him under the bus for not winning his first game. And "Let's face it Chizik is here to stay for awhile" is more of an attitude that, after one game, we've already given up on his tenure here at ISU. Yes - we all want immediate success, but how realistic is that?

I agree, it's a double-edged sword. You have to pump up the fans to sell tickets but run the risk of being "disappointing" at the same time. I think a lot of fans have realized from day one that it was a marketing gimmick and not real hype for expectations. The problem is, not everybody has planned for a losing record this year when that's realistically the only outcome that should have been expected.

I just ask that people take a deep breath and look at the big picture. We're a below average team that for once seems to be learning how to get better. I'll put it this way... A year ago we would have looked at this game and said it's the same as what we'll see for the next game and the next year, etc. This year we look at it and see a silver lining with players and coaches that won't accept the same outcome again and again and again and again...

It's a different mentality in the locker room and I wish the fans could all realize that things aren't like they've been in the past. Chizik and staff don't play allegiances, they play the best player on every given day. Where Meyer could have banked on playing every snap this year with the old staff, he knows that if he doesn't improve this next week, he could very well be on the bench most of the UNI game. It's now about who's playing the best each day instead of playing who's been there the longest or who seems like a good guy.

We're now in this to win and not just to compete, it just takes time to get everything in line behind the staff.

I hope you are right. I know Chizik is playing the team he inherited. We have seen the potential to know that things can improve for this team. Great staffs take what they have and make something better out of them. We owe Chizik and the team a chance to show themselves. I hope your comment
"This year we look at it and see a silver lining with players and coaches that won't accept the same outcome again and again and again and again..." is prophecy and not the stoic wait until next year or the next game. I unfortunately was able to watch the game. Hearing that execution was a problem and that mistakes kept being made is disheartening. I know we are not a stellar team yet. But I do expect the Staff to work the team enough in preseason to remove most mental mistakes and physical fatigue. You are right we still need to support the program. Condemning the team and the coaches will definitely bring about change but not necessarily for the better.

Ultimately you are right I need to sit back take a breathe.

And scream LET'S GO STATE!!

I agree with the original post.. however... I also feel the team will improve... the glass isn't as empty as some may want to portray... I actually think we will look back at this game as one the we scratch our head at, let get away and wonder what if we had that game back.

I'm still a true believer in this coaching staff. Look at the number of players that shuttled in and out to get a feel of who we have. Interceptions we're costly. I'm still holding out for vast improvement each and every week. It is a marathon... not a sprint. "Will you be there when...." Go crazy... call me crazy... but still holding out for 7-5. Oh well... say what ya will... but I will be there... cheering like crazy and supporting this year's team. Until will lose 6... 7-5 in still possible.

Go Clones !

At least beat UNI and see how we improve from week #1 to #2. If both of these happen then a 3 win season is still reasonable. It will be 2009 when the young O-line grows strong and we can expect to win. I think we all were drugged up on "the new era" and reality hit Thursday night. Let the new staff take their lumps, beat UNI, show intensity vs. Iowa, and be competitive vs. comparable Big XII opponents. Until 2009 I will still have my season tickets, donate appropriately, and fully enjoy the tailgates. Down but not out! Will new leaders emerge?

For those of you that say losing to Kent State is unacceptable, I want to know how you think we could have done better last night? Did you ever stop and think that just maybe Kent State has a better team right now? Just because they aren't in a huge conference doesn't mean they can't be decent. Let me break the news to you... Iowa State IS NOT a good team and we're NOT going to win the conference this year. Sorry for the wake-up call but it's time you step up and be a true fan instead of a blowhard that just wants to talk smack.

Yes it's hard to accept that change takes time but to behave like *** holes after one game shows the cardinal and gold you wear is just a facade. Anybody that has actually followed Iowa State knows the changes and drastic improvements that are happening behind the scenes. Yeah we played like **** last night but that's because we don't have talent, we don't have size, we don't have speed and YES we probably are the worst team in the Big XII today. I don't believe we will be in 6-8 weeks and I know we won't be in 2-3 years but I'm a real fan and I give my teams time and my coaches the chance they deserve.

You've said you don't want to hear the excuse about a new coaching staff but most of you are the same ones that kept giving McCarney years of excuses without wanting a change. Wake up Rush and quit being a hypocrite. The main thing to remember is that these players were recruited by a different staff to do different things. We don't have great athletes, sorry to say it but we don't have the athletes to compete every weekend with our schedule. A coaching change is great but the staff can't kick, throw, tackle, run, block, etc. It takes time to get the right guys in place to carry-out the coaching staff's wishes.

Chizik and crew came in and had nothing in place behind the scenes to match their style of coaching. Up until Thursday night, they didn't even really know what they had for a team. Until you have your guys lined up on the field against an actual opponent, it's all a crap-shot in practice. They'll get better but anybody saying that it's unacceptable to take time to get better probably should never have become a Cyclone fan, and probably really aren't.

Sorry for the wake-up call "fans" but this is a marathon and only the true fans are going to be there to celebrate at the finish line.

Note: I may run a big website but I'm a die-hard Clone to the bone. I have to be careful how I word things but there's also a time to take off the gloves and go to bat for my team. I didn't like the results last night any more than anybody else but I also didn't say "ahh ****, that was a waste of time" because I truly love my school. We're all passionate and emotional but there's also a time to be strong and support the program above your own short-term egos.

Losing to Kent State is unacceptable. I am sure Coach Chizik would agree. Now it may be because McCarney left the cupboards bare or Chizik is still learning or whatever...but fact is fact and this is unacceptable. If we start accepting this sort of thing as okay...well then I guess we are Iowa State fans because that is what we do. We find ways to justify losing to teams we should have a better team than. If we don't then fix it, and fix it fast. Sorry some of you can respect a loss like this...I can't, and you can lecture me for 15 paragraphs and it won't change my mind.

I'm a little surpised by all of the posters who feel the "cupboards are bare" or "GC doesn't have his players", etc.
Guys- this was Kent St.!! Anyone who thinks Kent St. has superior talent to the current ISU team, I think, is not being realistic. Now to say we don't have superior talent to other Big 12 teams, OK.

Comments/questions on the game:
-How does Bass not start?
-The only chance we had against their QA was pressure. How many times did we blitz?
- Why don't we have eight guys in the box in the 4th quarter when we know they will run?
-How can we put Sandvig in there again after he's dropped two balls? It's the first game, let see how someone else does with the first game jitters.
-The biggest disappointment by far- the lack of mental toughness by our 5th year senior QB. If we are going to have a long season, I do hope the two young kids get considerable playing time. Unless he steps up, Bret's should share the time.

And lastly, I'm glad GC is our coach, and we do have positive things to look forward to long term. Let's beat UNI and then Iowa.

it takes tennessee sippin' whiskey about 10 years to age
properly.give coach chizik 3 years to put the winning isu squad
