Fans? What the hell is wrong with people?

I posted this in another read but with all the negativity and hostility in this thread I felt it needed a second posting:) These were my thoughts from the day:

I think everyone just needs to calm down. You want to know what I thought of the day & night. Unbelievable atmosphere around the Jack again. What a day for tailgating and football. We could not have asked for a better day. The beer was flowing and the burgers were being eaten quicker than we could grill them. The people around seemed like they were really nice and everyone seemed to have a great time. The game didn't necessarily have the final result we wanted but there were some good things to take out of it just as there were some bad things the need corrected. Was I disappointed in the loss, yes, but you know what I'll be there again next week when the lots open. Again the beer will be flowing and the burgers will be grilled and again I'll go in a cheer my azz off for the Cardinal and Gold because I love my Cyclones and I love everything about college football from the tailgating to the game. We're all on the same side here so lets quit our ******** raise our cold one's in the air and just chill out.

Thaaaaaank yoou.

A lot of what I've seen on CF since the end of the game last night is a lot of finger pointing from fans to other fans. Different people react differently to things, so just take a chill pill, get off your high horse, and get ready to cheer next week.

Amazing commentary from someone whose handle pays tribute to ISUs most famous football thug.

I had a great time tailgating, and even a great time at the game until the 2nd half. Bottomline, we looked inept several times on the field last night. I wasn't expecting that, and it disappoints me as I am sure it does many other fans. If we feel the need to vent just a little, that is our Jamie Pollard given right, being that we buy tickets and attend the games.

I agree with so many of the thoughts on this thread that it's hard to quote one. If we are going to go about trumpeting how great Cyclone fans are, and hoisting our best mascot trophy and all that by winning polls, we are also going to have to back that up with our actions, our speech, and our demeanor. We need to stay behind the team through thick and thin.

And not boo them off the field at half time just because we're still looking like we did last year... atleast wait for the second game to start calling for heads to roll.

But I agree with jberryma, lets all chill out and raise a beer insted of a fist (myself included)

On a good note, I did see a lot of good things as well. I thought our defense at times look good (3 forced turnovers.) Also I really liked JJ Bass I think with more experience he could become a very good back. Just wondering though did Jason Scales play at all?

Tell me, is it the plays that didnt work or is it the lack of talent using the plays that caused the trouble. Im under the impression that the play calling was pretty good. The execution sucked.

Playcalling sucked IMO. We were bound and determined to run to show all we had men out there. We did for four or five runs and not so much for 20-30 others. We walked to the line. We took our time. We never became desparate. We played like a preseason game. We had a great pass interception amnd a nice fumble recovery. We had some motion penalities due to our own crowd bering out of sync with yelling and band playing too long. Just expected better than last season. Guess I will just wait for the future like in basketball. Wrestling is the cream of the crop for the three sports.

For those of you that say losing to Kent State is unacceptable, I want to know how you think we could have done better last night? Did you ever stop and think that just maybe Kent State has a better team right now? Just because they aren't in a huge conference doesn't mean they can't be decent. Let me break the news to you... Iowa State IS NOT a good team and we're NOT going to win the conference this year. Sorry for the wake-up call but it's time you step up and be a true fan instead of a blowhard that just wants to talk smack.

Yes it's hard to accept that change takes time but to behave like *** holes after one game shows the cardinal and gold you wear is just a facade. Anybody that has actually followed Iowa State knows the changes and drastic improvements that are happening behind the scenes. Yeah we played like **** last night but that's because we don't have talent, we don't have size, we don't have speed and YES we probably are the worst team in the Big XII today. I don't believe we will be in 6-8 weeks and I know we won't be in 2-3 years but I'm a real fan and I give my teams time and my coaches the chance they deserve.

You've said you don't want to hear the excuse about a new coaching staff but most of you are the same ones that kept giving McCarney years of excuses without wanting a change. Wake up Rush and quit being a hypocrite. The main thing to remember is that these players were recruited by a different staff to do different things. We don't have great athletes, sorry to say it but we don't have the athletes to compete every weekend with our schedule. A coaching change is great but the staff can't kick, throw, tackle, run, block, etc. It takes time to get the right guys in place to carry-out the coaching staff's wishes.

Chizik and crew came in and had nothing in place behind the scenes to match their style of coaching. Up until Thursday night, they didn't even really know what they had for a team. Until you have your guys lined up on the field against an actual opponent, it's all a crap-shot in practice. They'll get better but anybody saying that it's unacceptable to take time to get better probably should never have become a Cyclone fan, and probably really aren't.

Sorry for the wake-up call "fans" but this is a marathon and only the true fans are going to be there to celebrate at the finish line.

Note: I may run a big website but I'm a die-hard Clone to the bone. I have to be careful how I word things but there's also a time to take off the gloves and go to bat for my team. I didn't like the results last night any more than anybody else but I also didn't say "ahh ****, that was a waste of time" because I truly love my school. We're all passionate and emotional but there's also a time to be strong and support the program above your own short-term egos.

This is the second thread on this topic. If I look at the thread titles on the football section, I see zero threads indicating that there has been a widespread irrational overreaction to the loss.

Personally, I have as much of a problem with people who think they are "better" fans than others as I do with the fans who freak out about a loss to Kent State.

We are calm. We saw what we saw. We were beat at home in our new regime by a fairly good MASC team that had been 6-6. Reality has set in. One or two win season at this level of play with our schedule. Maybe UNI. Maybe Iowa. Maybe Kansas. Maybe not.

Do you guys think we didn't hustle back to the line when we were down as part of Chizik's "never let them see you sweat" philosophy?

I'm glad Gene is here because he seems like a good guy, and he has brought a lot of attention to ISU...it also showed that our program CAN lure hot commodities to Ames...but let's not throw him under the bus after one game, or talk about how much better things are in certain areas...right now he's playing with Dan's players (although he would never use that as an excuse), but the fact is we are 0-1, with a home loss to Kent State...let's give Gene some time to establish his system, and bring in his players before we pin mediocrity or greatness to his name....as for the game, I was impressed with Bass, as well as our defense compared to last year for the first 2 1/2 qts...I was disappointed with the turnovers, penalties, and outcome...I also think that just because people think losing to Kent State is unnacceptable, it doesn't mean that they don't support Gene and ISU.

Exactly. I want to see our team run to the line of scrimmage for EVERY play, and call a quick count. Don't give the defense time to line up and adjust. This is EXACTLY what the Kent State offense did to our defense. Our defense was hardly ever completely set by the time Kent State snapped the ball.

I hope Chizik recognizes this and makes appropriate changes. Our defense needs to get calls faster and get set quicker. Our offense needs to run to the ball and hustle every down like the game is on the line. Which reminds me... we didn't even hustle when the game was on the line in the 4th quarter!

Another thing, Im tired of people saying "i cant believe we lost to Kent State". Listen folks...Kent State does not suck, your attitude does. They arent picked to win the MAC for nothing. They have talent and discipline. My hats' off to KSU. We will improve. It just takes time.

I'm tired of that statement too! And how 'bout the people who kept saying "Where the hell is Kent State?" Are you kidding me? At least have enough interest to know who the hell we're playing! Especially if they're going to beat us! These are the same people that seem to know everything about play-calling. Kent State is not a bad team & they'll have a good season. For ISU, it will take time. If you want to jump off the band wagon, go ahead. We don't need part-time fans like you anyway!

Great post, Jeremy. Kinda summed up my feelings. We HAVE TO stick behind this team. If we don't show the players, the coaches, JP, and the entire country that we want to win even when we're down, we're never going to get to where we want to go. I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER boo my own team....EVER! This is going to take time(I am hoping less than 5 years)but we will get there. I still maintain that the Gene Chizik era will be the best in Iowa State football history, despite the painful way it began.

There was so much hype about coach Chizik and this team that we got away from reality. I was unhappy and disappointed by the game, but I know realize that its gonna take time and this team can get better very easily. Myer, Blythe, and Bowen are better players than they showed last night. This game was a feeling-out process for the players and coaches. One suggestion to the coaches would be to throw downfield more and throw more often. We had more rushing yards than passing yards.

Bandit -- I think that was pretty well said. The thing that really disappointed me was the fact that we got wore down as the game went on. I thought we would be stronger physically -- hopefully this was just an aberration and our team will be one of those that makes it's greatest improvement between games one and two.

I still think we will beat UNI pretty decisively .... a week from Saturday we will be feeling a lot better about this team!

I said the same exact thing about UNLV last year, but I sure do hope you are right!

I don't think that the fans or the team should see this performance as acceptable. There will always be excuses for losing. We will see how good Kent State really is next week when they play Kentucky. None of us want to see 1994 again - especially not with talent like Blyth around... No sense in coddling a seven figure coach - put him on the hot seat! Considering that Iowa State hasn't been exactly a football powerhouse in the past I would say that it is time for some urgency.

Before a single game was played, Chizik was considered the annoited one. Now that one game has been played some people are ready to give up on him. The fact is nobody knows at this point whether Chizik is leading us to glory or to ineptness.
