Exactly. Both offer products and services that can be charged for. Facebook's main push is that they have 900 million users, but that doesn't mean anything when none of those users are actually paying anything to Facebook. So the advertisers and developers need to decide how much to pay Facebook to access to those users. Google does sell advertising space but that is just one part of it's revenue, that is all of Facebook's revenue.

I think people can make money from Facebook in certain situations and given enough time. But IF Facebook is ever replaced like my space was the company goes away fast as does the value of any shares.
 
This is where I am confused as well. Does Facebook start charging at some point?

Zucherberg (sp?) has basically said they never will. Their next revenue appears to be coming from being able to buy apps within facebook.

Not sure what benefit that is but then again i'm not a big facebook user like my wife and others are.
