Facebook IPO

I think you are on to something here. In my own personal experience, the amount of time I spend on Facebook has declined as it basically gets more and more spammy. I don't want half of my posts on my feed to be about what my friend just did on a game, or somebody logging their run on their exercise tracker, or checking in at some stupid location. The more stuff they are integrating into the program, the more noise it creates, and the less time I want to spend on it.

I glance through status updates on a widget on my phone a couple times a day (which doesn't show advertising), and that is about it. Maybe it has something to do with me getting older, but I don't think that is all of it. Whatever it is, it has certainly made me a user that is far less valuable now than I was 5 years ago as far as trying to monetize Facebook, and I doubt I am alone in this.

You aren't alone. I completely and totally agree. Obviously I'm a bit busier now than I used to be, but I don't care about FarmVille or my friend playing some other stupid game so I flat out don't visit as much.
 
I have trouble believing facebook won't go the way of MySpace.
Personally I am thinking of deleting my facebook as I find it about 95% worthless. Like I really care that someone played words with friends or someone else ate at McDonalds or "likes" Applebees.
 
I'm sitting this one out. Too reminiscent of the tech bubble at the turn of the century. The value of the company isn't tied to its revenue streams.
 
Two things I dont trust...a company lacking a diverse product line and a woman with a stronger jaw line than myself.
 
For those that ***** about the games and like's you do know you can block those from popping up in your news feed right?

It's predominantly ad driven.

However listening to CNBC yesterday companies are very split on advertising on Facebook currently. GM and some other major companies have pulled all ads with facebook.

According to GM the ads have a .05 user click percentage. Which means for every 1 million FB users only 500 click the ads.

However Ford is claiming that by not just advertising but unveiling products through facebook they have had great success.

Personally I'm sitting this one out, may jump in if the price falls in the first week or two like most IPO's do. But it would have to take a heck of a dip for me to even think about it.

This is why I believe specialized social networks are going to contain a lot more future growth than Facebook. If you want to learn about games for example, log into your gaming network. Of course there will always be a place for a "real-life" network like Facebook, but I'm not convinced Facebook will continue to grow at a pace that will make investors a lot of money.

Heck, most of us probably visit CycloneFanatic a dozen times for each facebook login.
 
It's the best way to keep in touch with high school/college friends & extended family for me.

Maybe it makes me a bad person, but if it weren't for FB I wouldn't be in contact with a LOT of them like I am now.

I just think that they have their hands in a lot of pots right now. Their integration with pretty much everyweb site is outstanding. There are tons of places that let you log in thru facebook. I see them using this to their advantage...want to be part of the network...well you (businesses and new products) owe us a fee.

Google was more of a search engine. Facebook reminds me more of MySpace although they have like a billion users. I agree though, I think it is only a matter of time before something new comes along. Then again you throw a billion plus dollars at something you can do about anything you want.

Since I stated this the thing will probably skyrocket and be selling 10x what the initial investment comes out of the shoot tomorrow.
