F1 2022 Discussion

In for my yearly rant. I love F1 and love the new base that Drive to Survive has brought to the sport. After seeing (hearing and feeling) the v10 and v8 power units in-person years ago the switch to the v6 turbos just doesn't compare. That made all the difference, honestly. I would rather get an over the pants hand job than listen to a current F1 power unit.

Verstappen looks like the car to beat in qualifying in a bit but I still think Mercedes is sandbagging a little.

Normally I would agree with you on Mercedes and I do still somewhat feel that way. Mercedes has been visibly struggling with the porpoising effect though since the first test and they haven’t seemed to work that out yet. That has to make it very difficult to get your breaking zone perfect with the car bouncing like it is.

That being said though, these announcers certainly love to play up these FP sessions. So many times last year, “such and such driver is way off the pace, it’s going to be a bad qualifying session for them.” To then have Such and Such driver get the pole.

With Mercedes, it seems they know they’ve got the pace, so I think they work on other race pace stuff during the practice sessions.

I'd agree with that. Plus you've got Hamilton. He's got the experience and skill that he doesn't need to be trying to push super hard in practice. He knows what he can do, and when it comes time to perform he can just turn on that skill set effortlessly.

Tough to miss that much practice time, especially when your car isn’t the fastest already.

Middle of Q2 and 1 HAAS car are currently a head of the Mercs............ I'm just not sure how to process this
(edit, just 1... but still)
