It's going to be an uphill road, IMO, with Jake Sullivan as the coach of Barnes' All-Iowa Attack team. Jake has already gone on record as saying that McDermott's offensive system is not suitable for talented players...say, like Barnes.

Except this is basically what Michigan did to keep us from signing Glenn Rice back in the 80s. Someone gave Glenn and his family access to a cabin in a very remote area of upper Michigan around signing day. Then when Iowa State's coaches came for Glenn to sign his LOI he could not be located. He signed the next day with Michigan... and led them to a National Championship in 1989....

McDs system doesn't fit talented players....dumbest thing I ever heard, even if it did come from Eminem. Its basketball, score on offense and defend your goal on defense, talented players do both of those well, regardless of the system and all coaches tweak a system if there is exceptional talent.
I think he's misconstruing the quote a bit - Jake was saying that the system isn't really built to showcase incredibly physically talented players like Barnes. He used Wesley and Rahshon for an example - they are extremely physically gifted but the extremely controlled halfcourt game wasn't allowing them to get out and show what they can do.
As our guards develop/mature, I think we'll see more fastbreaks.

Sullivan's comments were generally similar to criticism you might hear about Wisconsin's Bo Ryan. But, a great player can still shine in that type of system. It just isn't the same as the high-flying circus act you see from schools like Memphis.
That being said, rumors around AAU circles is that the "big boys" will definitely be in Iowa this summer to see Barnes. Don't be surprised if you hear about Duke, Michigan State, and Southern Cal looking at him.
I've seen him play. He is very gifted and looks to be about 6'6".
It will be an extraordinary win for McDermott if we get him. I don't see him going to EIU at all.

In a BCS conference, you really shouldn't lose a recruit from the town the university is based out of, unless it's a city of considerable size.
I don't know if that is fair, there are a lot of kids that want to get away for school. But as I've said, the staff has every built in advantage possible within the rules when it comes to Barnes. A lot of Cyclone fans will be very disappointed if he doesn't sign with ISU.

Anyone have a count on how many ISU games Barnes attended this past season? I know we've got some good stalkers...er...attentive members here.
I'm guessing it's somewhere between 10-15.
