Without going back and searching through old threads, were people expecting Burton to be such a prolific scorer? Freaky athletic with okay shot was what I remember. He was a total stud today.

Yes some. I expected this as long as he was allowed to play utilizing his skills from the perimeter. At Marquette they just posted him up. I think it was only a matter of time once he was properly utilized. Some of the old threads were more focused on his interior play, which were probably not quite accurate.

Coach Prohm preached for three months how much Burton had worked and improved. I didn't quite believe it until today. Incredible effort last two games.

You could always see Burton's potential, and it's clear that because he's a tweener, he is a hard matchup for many defenders.

Certainly can't expect 29 & 12 every game, but so far he's delivered this season.

You could tell by his facial expressions that he was locked in. Dead eye focus. Even had an outburst of emotion after one of his big plays. Blocking the sasquatch was a "man" play.

I think Burton's "problem" last year was conditioning. We all saw glimpses of his athleticism but now he's in shape to do it for longer stretches of game.

Agreed. Plus - I'll just come out and say it - I think McKay was something of a bad influence on Burton last year attitude-wise. Definitely love what Deonte is doing so far this season.

People had high hopes, but he still had to put it all together.

ISU needs Burton to be as aggressive as he's been the last 2 games. He'll take the occasional bad shot but this team is so much better if he's creating. I think the only shot of his I didn't like all game was the 3 he settled for Near the end.

When Burton remains focued and realizes that playing defense and rebounding can get him even more points then he will really be good. His outside shot is better than we give him credit for I think..

Yeah I think so too. Everyone complains if he misses a couple of threes, but he is a career 44% three point shooter

He'll be even better once Monte figures out what he has to do to make Burton better. I think Monte is still working through some things right now.

I've heard a variety of options used, but does he has a solidified nickname?

To an extent, I agree. I think Monte has been excellent, but I also think that the team as a whole runs better at times with Monte thinking pass first. He's really added to his game as a scorer, and I want him to size his man up and take him off the dribble as much as he can, but if the defense is guarding against that, draw the extra defender and kick out. All part of learning the new role and the rest of the team learning theirs.

Wasn't sure what my impressions were of him, but here is what I posted in Dec. 2015:

"He shows a great handle (check out the nasty crossovers from his high school clips, makes some nice passes, hitting from 3 as well as off the drive and, of course, he can sky on the dunks. Athletically and skill-wise, he reminds me of a shorter Royce White though, of course, the proof will be in the pudding."

So glad he's playing like the flashes we saw from brief video clips. Just needs to start going to his right a bit more to keep defenses honest. The encouraging thing is that he's so far proven to be a big game player. I think if Young had been healthy yesterday, we beat Gonzaga.
