Expectations for 2018-2019

we've put beverly, bowie, holden, etc on the court in recent years. when's the last time we have added a guy who's put up double digit rebounds in a power 5 league? 6'8", 230, who can jump? and defend.

two biggests IFs next year: babb's health and jacobson's outside shot.

Iowa State

"Iowa State will enroll one of the top classes in program history next season, highlighted by top-35 wing Talen Horton-Tucker. The Cyclones will also have two ready-made producers on the court that sat out last season due to transfer restrictions.

Marial Shayok, who made the surprising decision to transfer out of Virginia with only a year of eligibility remaining, will get his final go-around at the college level. A three-year contributor on two ACC title units at UVA, Shayok is a do-it-all wing-forward that should thrive in Ames. Joining him will be Michael Jacobson, a 6-foot-8 power forward that didn’t quite find his footing at Nebraska.

If Jacobson and Shayok can solidify the frontline and Lindell Wigginton returns, the Cyclones could be dancing again after a one-year hiatus."

"K-State could be picked to win it. If I was picking, I’ll definitely pick them first in my preseason poll," Self said. "Iowa State, from an appearance standpoint, maybe a little down last year, but hey they have had an unbelievable recruiting class. They basically kind of locked up Chicago this past year. And if they return four starters to go along with that, I mean they’re a team that could certainly make a run."

Self did go on to list other Big 12 schools, though his extended comments centered on Kansas State and Iowa State. Coaches certainly aren't going to talk negatively about a rival, but that Self made a point to go in-depth on the Cyclones is possibly worth noting.

With a little better FT shooting he should easily top 20ppg this year (hell he probably will regardless). Only 5 players have done that since the big 12 switched to the round robin. Those guys were Trey Young, Frank Mason, Buddy Hield, Georges Niang and J'Colvin Brown. Pretty good company, Young and Brown are the only guys on that list that werent seniors and that list includes 3 of the last 5 Big POYs.

I can't see him scoring over 20 ppg next year because Iowa State will have plenty of other options if healthy but I expect his points to come with better efficiency.

@CBB_Central More I think about it, the more I absolutely love Iowa State next year. Amount of versatility in the backcourt with Weiler-Babb and Horton-Tucker playing together is absurd, plus an elite shot creator in Wigginton and a very good big man in Lard. Top 25 upside in my opinion.

‏@CBB_Central Cyclones also add 2 very good transfers in Shayok and Jacobsen who are proven D1 contributors and the rest of a very strong recruiting class. Cyclones will be deep, athletic, and super switchable.
