Expansion

Looks like we need more viewers. I say take two of these 4. BYU, CINCI, PITT. OR AIR FORCE. Now if we could get Notre Dame that would solve a lot of problems.

Just kill the idea of divisions, protect a rivalry game, and leave the rest up to a complicated algorithm. Top two teams play in the championship.

Because lopsided divisions is lame.

Not allowed based on current rules. Must have divisions to have a title game. Plus lopsided divisions increase chance of two teams in champ game. Let's say two teams in south went 12-0 and 11-1. Team that went 12-0 wins title game. 11-1 team has better shot at making playoff than if they lost the last week. Also, they don't risk losing again in champ game. Downside is that there is a chance for upset that could knock team out.

Plus, Texas schools and Oklahoma schools have stated they want to play each other. I cannot see a scenario where they would except being in different divisions.

Anybody but BYU.

The "piece of the pie" people who have dominated this discussion since we went to 10 teams won't like that.

Anybody but BYU takes a big old hunk of that pie away. Talking about both B12 fans and ADs.

I have to agree, anybody but BYU.

West Virginia already is complaining about their travel schedule, now throw in a conference away game in Utah... It doesn't make sense to be stretched out across three time zones and pretty much the entire continental U.S. The Big 12 can find 2-4 more teams east of the Rockies.

Is BYU football-only off the table? They would jump to swap their WCC-Indy status for WCC-Big 12.

Is there some legal financial reason it can't happen? Traveling to Utah for one football game every 2 or 4 years is nothing. They bring eyeballs as a team that's been playing in mid major conferences, a decade from now they could be yet another B12 team ISU can't even keep up with in football.

BYU is the team that doesn't "take from the pie" they're a push without the benefits of playing in a power 5. They'll likely be one of the "haves" of college football within a decade of joining.

If nothing else I'd prefer BYU as football only to pair with Cincy as opposed to adding Memphis. Memphis will always be there down the road, it is just too desperate of a move. If we said no to a publicly begging Louisville and then add Memphis 18 months later...Bowlsby is the worst conference comissioner ever, worse than Beebe even.

While I hate Bowlsby he does take his marching orders from the University Presidents

Adding two teams if the title game alone gets us $40m makes perfect sense. However, to add four teams, it would need to make $80m. To add six teams, it would need to make $120m. So slow down on going to 14 or 16 teams. The best move would be to go to 12 teams. And if having a title game makes up the money without name teams, then just pick the two best available.

I think those two are BYU and Cincinnati.

Saying no to a begging Louisville and then turning around and asking Memphis would be bigger fail than any lack of action Beebe was guilty of. At the end of the day those schools (Neb, ATM, CU, Mizzou) accept those invites unless Beebe would have truly had some insane foresight getting a GOR before it was even a talked about thing in those circles.

Not saying it will happen, just that would be a HUGE and obvious failure to end up with Memphis instead of Louisville for no good reason.

I'm coming around to thinking if BYU is fb only it will and may happen. I still like BYU full over Memphis if it has to be. I'd probably like UCF/USF or Tulane over Memphis too. I just don't get that rumor outside of WVU really wanting to move things up their way.

Anybody but BYU.

What if BYU was a football only member? They can keep their other teams in whatever ********* conference they're currently in

No Sunday ball. Travel stinks but only a few times a year. Additional football school with a national championship.

Why not?

TV partners said "no" to Louisville. We weren't in a position to buck them. The Big 12 really didn't have much of a choice.

Perhaps. But the reality is, if we add Memphis when we just said no to begging Louisville, the conference looks like a bunch of idiots with no control at all over their own destiny.

Hope we don't add Memphis so it's not an issue. There's a chance Cincy, UCF or USF brings as much to the table as Louisville. BYU brings more depending on how it's structured.

Pitt can't happen b/c they signed a grant of rights w/ the ACC

Air Force already said no because they didn't think they could recruit athletes on the same level as the rest of the big 12 back in the last round of expansion. I doubt they are going to change their mind.

I don't have any compelling reason to keep them off the list other than I just don't want to deal with the BYU fan base. My previous feelings were realized after Fred's boys beat them last year and we then heard that our players were just thugs.

I feel the same way about UCONN after they broke Cy's wing, and from first-hand accounts of how big of jerks their fans are.

I know people are against UCONN for some legitimate reasons, But we have a rivalry already and they have a national rep in Bball and they are close to ESPN for publicity. I think we need to go east for the league.
