Expansion

Never should have gotten WV IMO. Doesn't make any sense to me.

I think we should have gone west instead of east probably. I know there isn't the population out west, but there's just too much competition out east.

If we could drop WV and add BYU, Boise State, and Colorado State.... that wouldn't be so bad. Ideally we could just get the original Big 12 back together.... that was the best. Bring back Nebby, Missouri, and Colorado. That would be ideal, but will never happen.

This is sad.

BYU and UConn are the two only options left that could provide anything remotely close to value to the league.
And it will still not be enough. We would need like 60 million just to break even.
Heck of basketball league though.
And our footprint would be 3 time zones.

Might this be different now though with power 5 autonomy, don't think we would have to go through the NCAA necessarily.

What incentive do the other power 5 have to give Big 12 a waiver....it works in their favor right now. Keeping Big 12 on outside looking in as long as possible works in their favor

But there's zero logic for adding a conference championship game. It'd be a rematch every single year, so what is the point?

The reason for having a CCG for conferences with 12+ teams is that there is not a round robin schedule, so the opponents may not have played each other year (which was the case with the ACC, SEC, and Big Ten CCGs this year).

We have a true champion each year with the round robin schedule. For some reason we chose not to recognize it this year.

Uconn has now TV following. Adding Uconn adds geography with a lot of households which in the Big 10 tv network approach matters, in the Big 12 formula without network, ratings is all that matters and Uconn doesn't produce them. BYU and Boise are two that do and would add more dollars. Still would dilute, but not as much as Uconn

It's not even whether it works in their favor. There's the simple logic that it's an unnecessary game with a round robin schedule. What's the point of even playing the regular season game if they will get a rematch each and every season to avenge the loss and win the title?

My top 5 picks for expansion, in order:
Clemson
Louisville
Pitt
Memphis
Cincinnatti

My top 5 most realistic picks for expansion, in order:
Memphis
Colorado State
Cincinnatti
Central Florida
South Florida

Let's add UCONN Cincy South and Central Florida and never play anyone in our league. Regular season is now meaningless anyway

Cincy, uconn, memphis, BYU and Boise St. I say Boise St because of good fball background and basketball recently has been respectful and only consider Boise St if BYU is added. But yeah, BYU also has their own tv station as well. So 3rd tier rights would mesh smoothly. Just my $.02

Yuck. Talk about diluting our football conference.

Just schedule better in the non-conference. That was a bigger issue IMO.

Pounding a "top" Big Ten team into oblivion wasn't enough for TCU to top...a Big Ten team.

There's no solution other than merge with the ACC and hope being the new "money king" gets the Big 12 the same type of favortism the Big Ten now gets.

The point? Another game and more $$$$, that's the point of everything.

There arent any good football options. Maybe tolerable ones, but not good ones. Good basketball additions, but thats chump change!

Well, unless we can poach ACC.
They don't have to be good. The B1G added Maryland and Rutgers.

What is obviously clear is that the Big 12 needs a 13th game to get the best team over the hump. I'm guessing the NCAA rules on division scheduling will be removed and Big 12 could construct a championship within the 10 teams.

I think the Big 12 could also totally be interested in adding institutions. As it sits the conference is still arguably one of the best on paper. The Big Ten jump the Big 12, and it wasn't because they added 2 high quality teams - NOPE. Picking up UCin and Memphis is not too far from Maryland and Rutgers.

Sure thats true, but it means more money and a better chance the conference gets a team in the playoffs due to increased SOS. Like others have said the other conferences may not want to let us do this though. Maybe they will expand the playoffs to 6 and this will be less of an issue.

As long as we have a guarantee that Notre Dame will NEVER be in the 4 team playoff so we know it's fair. That'll happen right?

Amen. Outside of those two schools, no one adds anything, except diluting the conference financially and academically.
