Excited for the future

I said it before and I’ll say it again, I fully expect Lipsey to become a consistent shooter. Works too hard and already has the foundation mechanically. You could sort of tell the majority of his issues are in his head mentally.
That 3 pointer he hit at the end of the Pitt game was the perfect example.
The game was out of hand by that point, he knew he had to shoot and the consequences of his shot attempt were minimal.
Rose up, zero hesitation, and drilled it.
I full expect him to be a consistent shooter by his junior year.
Yeah, I just look at how smooth and good his FT shot is. It isn't like he is Rob Jones out there. It feels like a lot of it is mental. He was much better as a junior in HS than he was a senior and as a freshman at ISU. His mechanics look solid, he just needs to put it together, and he is definitely that kid that will put in the hours to get better.

I remember another point guard we had that was thought of as a poor shooter. He rose up and hit a 3 to beat KU. Coach was asked why he didn't shoot more because he was really a good shooter. Coach said we had better options for him to feed.
Holloway!!

Shooting is a great percentage mental. I know he shot the ball at Ames high at a decent clip. There is no doubt he’ll have more confidence with his shot in the years to come as a Cyclone.
Not exactly. He was a 22% 3P and 72% FT shooter as a senior. Did most of his damage getting to to the rim, distributing and defending.

But he’s a worker and will improve a lot.

The fact he had the g-league in his top 5 is a pretty good indication. Let’s look at last years #11 ranked composite ranking(Omaha’s ranking)Jarace Walker, currently a projected lottery pick. 247’s 14th ranked player last year (their ranking for Omaha) was Brandon Miller going to be a top 5 pick. Maybe Omaha will fall in love with it here and want to make a run at a title, but we should be prepared to have him only for a year.
He played at four high schools if I remember correctly. Would love to have him for two years, but he will need a lot of convincing in order to stay back from pro ball for an additional year

Tamin was 37-38% from 3 both his freshman and junior year with his ACL injury season lost in between. Not sure why it dipped as a senior

I'm not sure what the starting lineup will look like next year, but I'm skeptical we'll have two freshman starting. At least at the beginning of the season.

Biliew is already showing as a lottery pick on mock drafts. This isn't just ISU fans who arent used to getting 5 stars saying this.
The projected #1 draft pick in 2024 signed with Colorado I think is from the same high school as Brock Purdy.

And the the FT% gives me hope for an improvement overall in shooting. He can make shots, but free throws don't require a quick release to get the shot off in motion.

The ability is there; just needs to be squared up a bit.

Thank you for posting this. I know someone else mentioned this but I couldn't remember the exact percentage. Just from the way he shoots FTs you can tell he is way more capable as a shooter then he has shown this year. I fully expect him to be much better next year. He had a lot thrown on his plate this year.

He did not shoot many either. Honestly I think a lot of it was style of play and how the team was built. They were pretty methodical, and had some other guys that could score. And they got a lot of high quality shots with Tamin running the show.

There are a ton of freshman projected if you look at draft sites. According to NBA Draft . net there are 14 projected freshman (not even including G league in this one) going in the first round.
The real question is how many are top 20 draft? 2024 could be the initial season HS seniors are eligible for draft. It will be interesting how that impacts one-and-done projected kids like Omaha.

I just hope he comes to ISU with an open mind and let's his development determine when he jumps to NBA. We'll never know, but would have been interesting to see what THT's development would have looked like with 2 or 3 years at ISU.

Count me in as somewhat jealous. Seems like McDermott can pull in plenty of perimeter shooters at Creighton and at ISU its hard to get more than one.

He’s also been there for 13 years. They’re established. TJ is just getting this thing rolling

I’m not sure if there is a thread on projected starting lineups for next year so I’ll post here. I hope TJ commits to the young guys early….and they are ready for it.

Tre King
Biliew
Momcilovic
Tamin
Transfer shooting guard

Bench:
Ward (if he returns)
Transfer big
Watson (expect a jump offensively)
Williams
Hamilton

Williams is not going to start over Lipsey at PG and his shooting %s were not good enough at Temple to expect him to fill that role. I’m indifferent to Rob coming back but if he does I hope his usage goes down.

Looking at this I think it’s imperative that TJ get a quality shooter in the portal foremost, then we could use a capable big body in the middle. It will help if Hamilton can shoot, and maybe Fish surprises on the upside and challenges Ward and Watson for PT. I like this bench if we can get a transfer big more skilled than Rob. If Momcilovic is physically ready for the Big 12 then start him and Biliew and let them combine for 25 or more shots per game. They have to be better than what we had most of this year.
I'd expect TJ to do the opposite and go with experience early and build the confidence of young guys.

Starters.
Lipsey
TFR Guard
Biliew
Tre King
Tfr Post

2nd Unit
Williams
Hamilton.
Watson.
Momcilovic.
Jones.

Limited Minutes.
Eli King
Ward
Fish.

It doesn't matter if Williams or TFR guard starts. The group of Lipsey, Williams & Tfr guard will all play 25-30mpg.
