Everything Jakolby Long thread

While I agree with most of what you're saying we play Iowa on the road, our Thanksgiving tournament will be tougher than the one we played last year, and you can't bank on beating Kansas at home.

Yep I agree. Things of course could go the opposite way. We didn't have one bad loss all year and we beat two top 5 teams at home in KU and OU. All I said was my above points allow us 4 games of room for error. Ib throw down $100 right now we have a better conference record. A two loss out of conference record will be what we need to match to have a better record on the year.

@Iowa should be a win. They will NOT be a good team next year.

Not worth it for me to take a fellow Cyclone fans money. I think we win more games next year however.

1.) We play Drake not UNI (+1game)
2.) We lost two games in Hilton (+1 game)
3.) The Big 12 won't be as talented (+1 game)
4.) We didn't have one conference road win vs a tournament team: @KU @OU @WVU @Baylor @Texas @Texas Tech. I don't see this happening again (+1 game).

If you go back and look at our year, yes, we had a few big wins (KU, OU, Iowa, @ Cincy) but for the most part we lost more of the 50/50 games than we won.

Let's wait and see what Malou Bowie Jackson and the freshman have to offer. If one of them is a big time player I think we win more.

Still no takers. If it makes you feel better you can promise to donate it to the AD

Honest question for you - do you think we are better or worse than 10-8 in conference play next year?

Also, does the Big 12 tourney count towards our win count?

I'll take the friendly $100 bet. As talented as last year's team was it was a frustrating year. The Big 12 was loaded and we struggled with team chemistry at times and a first year head coach threw a wrench into things as well.

We will likely start four seniors and a junior next year. We should have an 8-9 man rotation full of primarily seniors and a few juniors. I think we have a better conference record and you won't convince me there are more than 3 losses in the out of conference. Not to mention the Big 12 tournament.

Backourts win in college basketball. Other than Kansas you'll have a hard time naming a better one than Morris Long Thomas Jackson Cooke Babb J. Long

*Only thing that nullifies this bet is if Malou is not eligible (I think that's fair.) If we add some freakish transfer forward I'll give you the chance to back out as well.

Accolades keep rolling in for Long.

Iowa State 2016 signee Jakolby Long (@jsnipe43) was named to @TheOklahoman's Super 5 Boys Basketball Team today.

Totally fair regarding Malou. I totally look forward to losing this bet.

I'm counting all tournament results as well. One caveat, if we go to the NIT and win it to squeak past the win total, I'm not paying. ;)

To summarize:
All non-NIT games count and it is basically an over/under bet with the number at 23.5. I have the under.

Long is going to be hard to keep on the bench next year. That's a testament to how good our current options, if with Donovan Jackson up in the area, are going to be.

I imagine he's a three-year starter after that, looking at our current roster construction.

We're just a couple players shy of a full rotation. Maybe if a couple freshmen are good enough they will try.

Fair enough. We will see where the chips fall. I like three guard lineups especially when your three lead guards all are seniors and can light it up from three. Burton will be the most improved player next year (Cooke a close second). That's my bold prediction. If Malou is the NBA type talent some are saying I like my chances. Thas a lot of stress on a defense.

I think this team could look a lot like that Mizzou team from a few years back that earned a 2 seed.

Hopefully we have a better tournament run than that Mizzou team

They were the epitome of a run and gun team and they ran into a squad full of junkyard dogs that slowed them down and frustrated them when shots weren't falling. At times during the year there was no doubt in my mind they were the best team in the country. One of the funnest to watch in recent memory though hopefully ISU plays the same way and gets a more uptempo draw/s in the tournament.

Did that Mizzou team press? I can't recall but I would assume they did under Anderson.

If my memory serves me right they'd throw out pressure at times but for the most part were aggressive man to man in the halfcourt. They played extremely small. The Pressey brothers Phil was maybe 5'11 and Matt was maybe 6'2. Denmon was their star at around 6'3. Stretch four in Kim English at a pretty skinny 6'6. Ricardo Ratliffe was their bulldog down low at around 6'7 or 6'8. Dixon was their instant offense 6th man at around 6 foot.

More than past year regular season. Three reasons. 1). Better defense. Can't get much lower than -175 defense efficiency 2). Depth. Twice as deep as last season 3). Returning seniors + leadership. - best, or one of best, back courts in the country. Also IMO the incoming class is outstanding. They are tailor made for this back court. I'm calling it a +25 game win season.

You can get significantly worse than ranked 175th in defensive efficiency. Doubley worse, to be exact.
