Are we related?
My wife from Chicago still laughs every time someone on the farm calls it "the crick." Next time we visit, I'm going to make her help grandma out with the "Sundy warsh."

When returning from the Liberty Bowl we took a different route through Arkansas and then up through Central Missouri. In Arkansas they had a bunch of numbered ditches. The difference between the ditches and creeks were their origin. The creeks were natural but the ditches were dug (mostly as public works projects during the depression) to drain off swamp land.I've literally never heard an Iowan call a creek a ditch until today. Maybe it's a regional thing in the state? I have seen it labeled that way in Indiana.
When I was a kid way back in the day we referred to the tiny waterway that bordered our place as "the crick" but we literally never used that term for any other creek. To be fair, this particular waterway wasn't much more than two miles long all told. Are we related?
