Eustachy back at Hilton Sunday

I realized today the Kane/Niang/Ejim season was 10 years ago.

Shaddap, 'bout had a stroke the other day when I saw that Tinsley played for State over twenty years ago.

Time flies when you're having fun.

I kinda hope that enough time has passed eventually Larry will be welcomed back like Tim Floyd and other former coaches and players have been lately. We can't just continue to ignore what he did while here even if the ending was a little rough. The most successful basketball season was under his watch along with some all-time greats that played under him too. Can't wait to listen/watch that interview CW and Blum did. I went to school from 98-02 and that 99-00 season still was the most fun I've ever expirienced with our basketball program. Was such a hard nosed and dominate team between Fizer in the post, Tinsley's magic playing the point, and Horton and Nurse bombing deep 3's.

He has been. He was at the Barry Stevens game at Hilton. I don’t think there’s any avoidance of him. Until fairly recently he was still coaching so he wasn’t going to be back during the season.

It was either that game or another one that I'm remembering where he was on the scoreboard and did a quick video.

I'd guess 99% of fans would love to see him. Maybe 100%. He was an alcoholic who occasionally partied with college kids. It's not like he was hooking up with college chicks (Tom Herman), as far as I know. A little embarrassing, but not the worst thing.

Right. And like I said, I don't think there is any ban on him or anything. I don't know that Iowa State organized the Barry Stevens game, but if they hadn't wanted him there I'm guessing he wouldn't have been there. And I can't imagine he hasn't been invited to the reunions.

I think he hasn't been back much because he was still coaching all those years. It's kind of weird for a current D1 coach to go visit the school that fired him.

And don't forget former guard Stevie Johnson guarding some of the huge power forwards in the Big 12 at the time as well as Horton bullying the other team's small forward even though he was probably the shortest starting 3 in the league. Their offense was fun but their defense was as tough as a two dollar steak.

Everybody thought they could overpower that ISU squad with their superior size until they played them and realized they were getting overpowered.

Responses here showing that very few on this board understand the nature of addiction.

This wasn’t ole Larry having a few drinks. That was Orr and plenty of others. This was the head coach, face of an institution, and leader of young athletes deceiving, lying, and covering his tracks until it couldn’t be covered. It’s addiction.

Larry being dealt with swiftly and severely quite possibly saved his life.

I say all this as an addict from a family that has wrestled with addiction.

Every AD in the country would’ve done the same thing including our current one.

Disagree.

Those pictures were leaking out before the register got ahold of them. The AD knew about them.

Most places, they would have gotten ahead of the story, gotten LE to take some kind of leave of absence for rehab.

Once the story hit the register first though, it was over.

It is a good point that BVDV could have handled it better. 'Could have handled it better' was the theme of his entire tenure at Iowa State.

I used to think as you do about the affair. Used to, that is, until Larry said in an interview (and I'm paraphrasing) that treatment wouldn't have worked at that time, he hadn't hit bottom yet. Ultimately getting fired was the best thing that could have happened at that time.
