I think it was the straw that broke the camel's back. The team wasn't that good his last two years. they knew he had a drinking problem, by several player accounts, he was becoming difficult to play for....etc. Then you add the embarrassment of not only him partying with college kids, but partying with Missouri students the night after we lost to them. Imagine Bill Self losing in Ames, then is seen that night partying in one of the Iowa State frat houses.

Bill Self probably would have gotten a raise and a statue as he can do nothing wrong in the eyes of KU fans.

UCLA had lobbed all over Maryland in the 2nd round so the narrative was they would do the same vs. ISU.

ISU not only was just better at defending, they had practically a week to prep for it. UCLA did get a couple in there but beyond that they didn't have much which looking back...was that their game plan? To just stick to the lob?

Fizer also grabbed a couple of lobs out of the air which felt like he was mocking them.

If I remember correctly one of those grabs of the lobs out of the air was in the first couple minutes of the game on their first lob attempt.
