MLB: ESPN MLB Coverage

It makes sense because Boston, NY and Philly are 3 of the biggest markets (and with 3 of the biggest fan bases) so putting them on tv means $$$. An argument could be made for the Dodgers/Angels, but being in the Pacific Time Zone, not many people in the rest of the U.S. are willing to stay up til midnight or 1 a.m. to watch the rest of the game.

I went with popular because the Cubs have a gigantic fan base but they aren't very good which hurts their popularity.

And do they ever do Sunday Night Baseball on the west coast? Sunday it's a bit easier to do a 5pm start out west than it is during Monday or Wednesday night baseball.

Occasionally yes. But I think it's easier for ESPN to put Eastern/Central Time Zone teams on just so they can fit the games into their schedule without having to move too much around.

It's called ratings. Whenever ESPN airs MLB, their telecast is blacked out in the respective team's TV footprint. If there wasn't a demand nationally for the Phillies, Red Sox, and Yankees, ESPN wouldn't air their games. Yankee/Red Sox games get big TV ratings.

It's ALLLLLLLL about ratings. Teams in NE and in LA get $$$, teams like the Royals, Marlins, Diamondbacks, and Mariners just don't bring in the dough... and that's just reality.

I don't care who they put on I just want them to put the best match up on TV. I would rather see Shields vs. Weaver rather than Wakefield-Burnett
