Chicago being zeroed in on Fred was a thing long before then...

Rhoads was fired but still allowed to finish the season. That loss is still on his tally.
You are reaching here dude. We all know the situation, but it was still a Fred Hoiberg team he committed to.
I think we were all pretty hopefully it was still a Fred Hoiberg team by that point.

Really? Cause I remember everyone here being quite shocked the few days leading up to the announcement Hoiberg was leaving. That was June 2nd of 2015.
I was not shocked whatsoever. Like I said, the signs were everywhere by that point. Heck, CW had been saying for at least a few weeks that he doubted he was returning.
I think many fans (and this was me, too, for awhile) were more in denial mode -- trapped by wishful thinking, afraid of the unknown if he left, and really holding the allure of the returning team (and its expectations) might be enough to keep him one more year in Ames.
Nick was a lot closer to the coaches, program, players, and Pollard than any of us were at that point. I doubt he committed with a high expectation Fred was coming back.
I'm not sure either place would be happy with that comparison.
You're correct. Ray Kasongo was a Canadian that sat out a year, but never played for us.Almost seems like we had more Canucks ... er, Canadian fellows ... during that stretch.
Thanks for info. As I said, I had a hunch but couldn't even guess well enough to web-search the names I remember. First one I randomly selected was Bluford, which was a "no," and I didn't pursue further.
With Iowa State filling its last basketball scholarship, it will be the first time in more than a decade that there will be no Canadian on our roster.
