I just hope ISU doesn’t make them change it like U of Wyoming did to DSM Roosevelt HS. Roosevelt changed its picture to a cowboy riding a fat horse which has always looked awkward.

Arizona made Austin MN high school change their block A.

I remember being impressed with the amount of ISU fans in Madison, when I first moved here, until I found out that Sun Prairie, WI (a suburb) HS has the same same cardinal mascot. At least, they used to. Bird advocates in Dane County might have found it offensive and made them change it, though.

Big district in my area does the same. Drove around 1st yrs wondering why so many ISU fans with walking Cy bumper stickers.

Middleton? Wasn't Sun Prairie also the Cardinals?

I swear the 'Welcome to Middleton' sign on University was the ISU cardinal but can't find it on the Google.

Yep, that's the one.

Generally, universities will allow schools within their state to use the mascot, but not out of state high schools. I suppose it falls under trademark.

There's also the connection between the UW and ISU so there are quite a few ISU fans around.

Yeah tbh I see a lot of actual ISU gear here too. More than Minnesota or Michigan. Never see Illinois. Daycare parent with ISU sticker, another at kindergarten, Hawkeye neighbors across street, and another couple from Iowa down the street. ISU couple next neighborhood. And a friend and her husband (both grads) here now too.

South Sioux City (NE) appears to have a few different Cardinal logos, but one of them is a knock-off of the blender/sign-holding Cy:

Treynor apparently has (or at least had, as of 2019) an agreement with Iowa State to use a version of the walking Cy.

Waukee used to use the Wisconsin W until Wisconsin sued them a few years back.
That’s a situation where the school should draw up a contract that asserts its right to the trademark and then discounts the fair market value of it to $1 in a way that is revocable for any reason.

I get that they need to defend their trademark for other reasons but this seems like a reasonable alternative to being a **** about it
