Electric dryer recommendations

For washers and dryers I am a big fan of low tech. Easy to repair and will last a long time. It all washes and dries the clothes the same.
I do agree with this and all my W/Ds have followed this guide line. The one feature about the newer W/Ds I really like and has almost made me switch to the newer style is the stackable feature.

Do NOT buy Samsung! Our Samsung washer was a POS and we ended up replacing it after like three years. We are still using the Samsung dryer but I've replaced the heat element on it like 4 times. Good thing those things are cheap and that I'm fairly handy.

Hey all, need some electric dryer recommendations as ours took a crap on us. Any good experiences/bad experiences with brands/models you can give would be appreciated!

Just make sure you go over the whole inside -- esp around the lint filter area -- to make sure the design is super smooth and no chances for anything to grab clothes as they tumble past. This is pretty much the only major pain point I've found after owning several...and not something you truly find out until it's home.

We looked at those as they are higher quality but the washer capacity is too small for our house.

We bought the super-huge washer drum, but frankly the only time it gets used to that capacity is if you do a large set of sheets or something. Regular clothes or such, I get yelled at for filling too full because it will fill up the laundry baskets "too full"

In other words, washer capacity may be slightly overrated. YMMV

Getting back on track (sort of), I tend to place a lot of stock in Consumer Reports. Subscription required, but LG absolutely dominates their rankings, and the competition isn’t close. The knock on LG,
if you are in Iowa, I’m told, is that it is quite literally impossible to get them serviced or get warranty work done.

Appliance guy at Lowes (seemed knowledgeable, ymmv) suggested Maytag/Whirlpool, and said they have recently had bad luck with GE - attributed it to production line issues, but I think he was speculating.

It is absolutely infuriating to think about dropping so much $ on an appliance that they have been making for 50+ years when you know it will fail sooner rather than later.

Mine doesn't...he's lonely with the Speed Queens. Actually, only the classic Speed Queen washer line is like this. They have a newer line that does not appear to be as reliable.
You are correct. Get the TC500 of the washers as the others are not up to par.

I'm not even sure what brand dryer I most recently purchased.

However I'd recommend the same general guidance WRT brands. Maytag/Whirlpool, GE, and even Fridigdaire/Electrolux.

I'm not sure how much of the GE line (for anything) is legitimately manufactured by GE in truth, but is rather contracted by the other manufacturers and branded GE.

I bought the TC5 line (the "Classic" line). The biggest difference in the TC and TR is how they agitate. The TC has a fixed drum and a moving agitator. The TR has the Drum fixed to the agitator and it turns back and fourth. I went with the TC to get clothes cleaner, but it is harder on the clothes. I was told that when they went to the TR people were upset so a year later they brought back the TC in one model (the TC5) to appease those people.

Samsung has a bad reputation but my Samsung washer dryer from 8 years ago still working great

Also just a note, I know a lot of people who have a wash machine break and then they replace the whole set. That’s really stupid. I replaced a washer and it was 8 years later before I had to replace the dryer. Buy white washer and dryers and replace only when needed. They do not have to match.

I agree with this. A couple we are friends with have the Speed Queen suite and it’s pretty cool. HOWEVER, depending on what your house/condo/apartment set up is, having the WiFi washer/dryer that alerts your phone when it’s done is a game changer. Nothing worse than going 3rd floor to basement only to find out there is 7 minutes left in a cycle.

8 year old GE washing machine puked out. It was the most basic one possible.

I'll never buy GE again.

I've never heard of an electric dryer going bad... I bet most last forever

We are on year 9 with our Samsung's. Only issues have been an easy replacement of the stability spring things on the washer drum after 4-5 years and a sensor on the dryer after 6-7 years. I am probably due to take the dryer covers off and clean out built up lint though.

Another Speed Queen household here. Though, honestly, I'm not sure I can say their dryer is any better than anybody else's. Most people don't really complain about dryers too much.
