Yep...Basabe is consistent for sure....consistently average. Ejim on the other hand....really stepped up his game last year.

Ejims number will be hanging in Hilton 5 years from now....en'ff said.
I noticed the same trend. Basically even as Freshmen - maybe a slight edge to Basabe. Then coaching took over.wow, I had no idea how much Basabe had plateaued. I guess Fran must have held back his fabled player development abilities for Woodbury.

Ejim is a jumpshot away from becoming a really effective player. CFH has said that is what he has to do this summer to really step up his game. If defenders have to play him tighter because he can knock down some shots then that will make the game much easier for him.
I thoroughly enjoy watching Basabe play and would love him as a Cyclone. He was an absolute steal for Iowa and the best immediate benefit of Fran becoming coach.
Right now I would take Basabe because he has shown he is more ready for the grind of major college basketball but I think Melvin will be better in 3 years and has a better chance at playing professionally.
Actually I didn't remember how he played because we won the game & Scotty was Thug-life that night! The only Hok highlight I remember from that game was Marble's great PG skills at the end. After the 2010 Cyclones vs. Hawkeyes game, I was not looking forward to the Clones facing Basabe for the next few years. Thankfully he hasn't ever played like that against us again.
If you recall Basabe had 12 pts, 14 rebounds, and 7 blocks in that game.
...while Basabe's will next be seen on the back of some ultra-hyped, yet somehow under-recruited, ginger phenom from North Dakota whose basketball acumen is matched only by his general waifishness.
You can't beat one of our resident troll hawkeyes talking up rpi!
we'll know in a few years...oh wait we know now. Ditto for CFH.
