Early Thoughts On Next Season?

It takes a special type of player to man the 4Grd. THT and Burton are/were those guys. The only remaining guy on the roster if THT were to enter the draft would be Griffin, but he'd be more of an Ejim type wing. So we may be very limited on options at the 4 if THT leaves.

Prohm has played 4 guards because for that's been how he gets his best guys in the rotation for the most part. Might have been a different story without the Young injury and Lard suspension. If either LW or THT leave, and even if both are back playing two bigs will probably be a necessity next year.

I would love to see MJ, Young and Griffin become consistent 3p shooters next year.

Funny to see all the “THT isn’t ready, THT is going to stay, THT isn’t that good” posts.

Just about every mock draft disagrees with you. the NBA doesn’t care about your bad basketball takes. If THT gets a 1st round guarantee he is gonzo. Gandhi.nicholas cage. Gonorhea.
As he should be.

Return to the dark days of cyclone basketball. The crew can get their wish, and every player transfers out to get “good coaching (right 67?).”

Then we can go like 4-27 so all of them can feel happy

If he is a first rounder I don't know many who would be opposed to him leaving. That helps ISU in the recruiting department.

I'm guessing both THT and Wigginton will get combine invites. That will be really telling in knowing who is gone and who will be back.

Talen has played like ass and won’t get a guarantee.

I can’t see either tucker or wigginton in the nba, ever. I see at least one of them gone- where to no clue, but too many voices in their head to stay. No info, just what I see and feel, addition by subtraction.
Who knows on lard, but without leadership he will never make it. His inability to play defense with his feet is lazy and stubborn coupled with being overly emotional are things keeping him from being very very good. Too much drama.
Mostly agree accept for tht. He has the body and athleticism that the NBA loves.

I think when THT tests the waters, they'll tell him he needs to stay. He'll respond to coaching and if he continues to jack 3s, I hope he at least toes the line.

Question: If the team stays mostly intact, and since we should then have depth as well as players wanting court time, should we start pressing more on defense? It looked in the preseason like we were going to more after made baskets, but that went away by Christmas.

When we started pressuring TCU at the end of the game here, it nearly won it for us. I actually thought we might try it in the game at their place a couple weeks later since they reacted so poorly.

I think pressing occasionally can get an extra possession or two which can help win close games. I look at it as a way to change the game up in much the same manner as going to a zone look from time-to-time during a game.

I think our length is an asset in a press. We also have rim protectors and/or on-the-ball harassers in both George and Cameron. (bonus... This could use two bigs in the game at the same time). I would put Conditt on the point because he runs the floor so well.

If Wigginton and tht leave I think it’s Halliburton’s team. Even though he was pretty impressive for a freshman I think he’s going to have a huge sophomore year no matter who returns

Odds are this won't happen, but for the sake of my hypothetical, everyone is back. I would start

Haliburton
Wigginton
THT
Nixon
Jacobsen/Lard/Conditt - each one is fully capable of starting.

I have a feeling Jackson will be a sharp-shooter off the bench, and Zion will have a much bigger role.

As long as 2/3 of LW, THT and Lard are back, I think we'll see the Prohm special, a 4th to 6th place finish in the big 12 and a first weekend loss in the NCAA's. If more than 1 of those 3 is gone, he'll need to hit the grad transfer market huge or his seat will be white hot. Missing the tourney 2/3 years wouldn't be acceptable. Especially when we saw Texas Tech and Baylor turn their roster almost totally over and still not miss a beat this season.

Scott Drew did an excellent job this year, but Baylor missed the tournament last year.

We will have huge scoring issues if we lose Wigginton, Shayok and THT.

Hope we can buckle up and play defense and hit the boards for the first time in over a decade and a half or that could get ugly.
