EA Sports NCAA College FB coming back Summer '24

And another road block. Think EA is just going to have to go with generic players if they ever want to get this game out.

This one might actually have teeth. That other group, the "College Athlete Players Association" or whatever it is called, doesn't actually represent any current college athletes, and doesn't have any authority to compel any of them to turn down the EA deal, at least not in significant numbers. They're just a 3rd party that isn't involved trying to get recognition. All they can do is talk loudly and hope players listen to them.

But this new group has skin in the game, and potentially a legal argument.

Just remaster 2014 for the new consoles. Update school logos, uniforms, stadiums and so on. Update the conferences. Completely randomize the rosters and release it.

If the players don’t want to be in it, don’t put them in it. Obviously I liked being able to download the updated/named rosters.. but if they have to disable it then so be it.

Yeah, having the real players in the game is only a thing for the first season or two. After that it's not not really impactful. I'd be fine with randomizing the rosters in the base game.

I hadn't played college football video game since about '08, but I think it's more about the schools & tradition than the individual players. So going generic doesn't seem like a big deal. Madden & NFL/pro games are a bit different.

Just make sure there’s a player editing feature and an online roster database. People will create real rosters in a week.
That’s why they stopped making the game. Players got pissed they weren’t being paid and everyone was able to download their likeness.

its probably going to get a lot of blow back of only paying the kids in the game $600 plus a copy of the game. kids can opt out if they want to.

im sure the bigger stars in CFB will get more with being featured/promos

Also it's $600 each year they continue to opt-in. It's potentially ~11k athletes, so over $7 million if you include the $70 cost of the game, better than nothing. I'm sure there will be some divas who don't opt-in, can't imagine that'll make them more popular with their fanbase, either (not that they'll necessarily care about that).

I can't wait for this to be a pre-order on the PS Store :)

I too don't care about actual names, but certainly the "Image/likeness" clearly should get compensation and i can see how sticky this could get (i.e. $600 and a game for the 3rd string linebacker is very fair...but a heisman hopeful maybe is worth more).

I had kept a PS3 around with the game and each year downloaded the rosters...doubt there will be a "workaround" for a PS5 version, but that was always great :)

Players are worth whatever the market is willing to pay. If EA sports is offering $600, then that’s what they’re worth. If they want more, they’ll need to find another developer to produce a game and pay more.
