Dustin Hogue

I know you're joking with the post, but to set the record straight, Fran and Iowa did offer Hogue and as soon as he committed to ISU, Iowa took Jok's commitment within a week. So far I am happy with who we landed.

Funny how Hawk fans seem to forget that. Didn't take long for them to realize Jok isn't a D1 basketball player though

CHUCKER!

It would be awesome if the student section yelled 'chucker!' every time Jok touched the ball.

Actually, they think he's pretty good. He hasn't impressed me at all but I've seen only a small sample. I think I've seen 3 airballs.

I guess I haven't visited HN for a while so I assumed they saw the writing on the wall...most of my buddies that are Hawk fans have came to terms that they would have been better off banking that scholarship.

He may improve and turn out to be a good player but I have a hard time believing that. I look at it this way if our football recruit outclassed him on the basketball court then either we have a freak athlete coming to play for us or he's not that great

Plenty of time for Jok to develop. Saying he is not D1 level is way too premature. You could have said the same thing about Naz last year and you wont find an ISU fan here that would ay that now. I hope he is an epic failure along with the fighting gingers, but I bet he will be decent come his junior and senior year.

Iowa's last two classes comprise of Jok, Ellingson, and Uhl. That's TWO classes. Need I say that the spring signing period is huge for them and their future?

I think it just shows what a hit and miss process recruiting can be.

With high school or prep school kids, you are always going to be recruiting the guy that was the star, or with prep schools maybe one of the stars of the team. You may not be able to be sure how they are going to perform in a true team situation. That can take time to develop, which is where I think Jok is now. There is no doubt the kid has talent, but it is too early to say whether or not he can develop it for Division I success. IMO, that is why it is better to go after the prep school players, even though there are things I hate about the prep school system. It just seems to me that the prep school players are more developed and are more prepared from the very beginning for college ball. Not 100 percent of the time, but more often than not.

Now, with Jucos....and players like Hougue....again you can't be really sure what you are getting because you see that player in a "college" setting, and in the case of Indian Hills in a defined "system". He was just a cog in that system, primarily a re-bounder and an underneath scorer. He has surprised even Hoiberg in his ability to score, his aggressiveness and his energy level. It may result in the future in CFH taking even more chances on JUCO's. But then, to counter that argument.....we have Bluford. There is no doubt he has talent......CFH just needs to teach him to be more selective in his shooting. Hopefully, he is making progress. He was 1/2 last night and even had a couple assists.

I remember when this thread was about Dustin Hogue.
That's funny because in all honesty, I thought I was in an Iowa-ISU thread. Funny and sad all wrapped up in one. I apologize...I'm the first to rip on others that do it.

He started it!

We knew we had three upper-level Big 12 players to begin the season in Kane, Niang, and Ejim. I think it's reasonable to put Hogue right alongside of those guys.

Add Long and the two mature freshman and we have a very good team---like top 4 seed good.

So what is the record for rebounds in one game at ISU? I'm sure it's more than 20, just curious how close Hogue got.

Ejim and Hogue in open competition for Big12 rebounding title?

It is hard to do this on the same team. However, we keep doing it in football with tackles.

also considered Iowa, Texas Tech, Washington State and Detroit. Geesh did the country miss out on him. Is he really 205 pounds he looks huge in person somewhere in the 230 range or so.

Saw Georges Niang tweet a picture of Hogue being the last one at the gym putting in the extra work. Love the work ethic I expect Dustin to just keep surprising the nation. One of my new favorite players.

Had offers from Iowa and Missouri too but yeah, great pickup. #30 JUCO in the country, McKay was #3

The comparisons of Ejim and Hogue are all legitimate. I think Hogue is more aggressive and "tougher" in the sense of grabbing the ball and defying anyone to take it from him; Ejim was not slouch however. But I hope people do not forget that one of the reasons Ejim was so far under the radar - actually until well into last year - is that he fills roles the team needs. As Hogue takes a more prominent role in rebounds, Ejim can fill other roles that FH requires - and he's enough of a team player to make it happen. If you look at quotes earlier this year (and recognzing that the interviewers sifted through lots of quotes before picking the ones to print), Hogue was all about how he is better than Ejim and Ejim was all about how Hogue pushed him to be better. I think that is very telling. I am not in any way saying that one is better than the other, just that they bring different personalities to the team. Like everyone else, I am DEEE-lighted that we have both on the team, and that Hogue will be back next year!!
