What in the #### is going on with the driving in Ames. Took my daughter to school yesterday and was almost hit twice by idiots cutting across two lanes to get to the turning lanes. JFC people, they have mirrors and turn signals now. They need to add an I.Q. test at the license stations. Goin to take the truck tomorrow with the son.

One of the things I hate the most when I come back to Ames....people have no clue how to drive. If the speed limit is 25 they'll go 20.

MOnster Truck?18 wheeler? Not sure how taking a truck is going to stop other people from driving like morons and causing accidents?
Doesn't help that the city decided, like they do every summer, to wait until late June to do any construction. Now all the major roads are getting major face lifts. Slowly. Which I've noticed has caused a lot of drivers to get ****** off because it's taking forever now to get from A to B. I waited through three red lights at the same stop light yesterday and about blew up (Lincoln Way and University)

Try Duff Ave/Lincoln Way around noon. It gets pretty congested, and those roads are not very capable of handling it.
I always try to stay off duff. It's just a disaster waiting to happen. Lincoln way isn't that bad.

You're totally right. Duff isn't capable at all of handling it.
Yea S. Duff was especially congested yesterday. Walmart, Target, and restaurants were all packed along that stretch.
Need to consolidate the driveways along that stretch, build frontage or backage roads, and maybe add medians. There is a project to do this along the stretch in front of Walmart that will hopefully happen next year.
This too, would be nice to be able to avoid Duff and get down to Hwy 30. Current city council seems pretty committed to moving the project forward. Environmental and placement study will finish up next year.
I am always glad that Ames has the college - but it is the students who directly cause these issues. Not just with their driving, but with their wildly unsafe pedestrian practices. Jay-walking across Duff in the middle of traffic, nowhere near an intersection, is ridiculously unsafe. It not only increases the chance of an accident, but it just generally slows down traffic from people having to accommodate them.
This is dated information, not sure if it still applies, but at one time the traffic signals in Ames were controlled and timed by three different entities, all with their own agendas. The City of Ames, The Iowa DOT and the Federal Highway Commission.
