For your reading enjoyment...from HawkeyeNation forum Iowa's Peak vs. Final Four Teams

As I was watching the games last night, I was watching how hard the teams play on both ends of the floor, etc. and was remembering how hard/well Iowa played when they were a projected 1 seed and ranked in the top 4 as they went through December and January with one loss in each month (close games at #4 ISU and at #8 Maryland).

I started to think how that Iowa team would match up with these teams and other teams that nearly made it, such as Kansas. I really think Iowa could have defended and scored with these teams and would have been in games to the end. They really remind me of what Villanova is doing. Iowa came to play every night and won basically every half, with the exception of the game at Purdue. In Iowa's first 10 conference games, they won 9 of them, all by 7 or more points, 8 of which were double-digit wins.

You have to play hard at both ends of the court for both halves to win games? This is a great observation.

Iowa had a terrible tournament performance. They were lucky to make it out of the first round. Their fans should be happy.

Well Iowa only lost to Nova by 21, while OU lost by 44. So because of this, Iowa is clearly better than OU and should be ranked accordingly.

Am I doing this right?

Almost, 19. Which means Iowa's better than both Oklahoma and Miami.

He's not wrong

Yeah but these teams are good despite people having the scouting report out on them. Iowa is really good if you give Uthoff and Jok space and they are mediocre at best if you don't. A fairly easy adjustment for any coach that reads a scouting report. If ISU did one thing their second half it was create a blueprint on how to beat Iowa.

In other words Iowa wasn't really that good of a team. I think Fran gets a bad rap, he actually does a great job of developing a strategy to maximize the talent he has, which makes them overperform in the first half of the year but by February teams figure out how to neutralize it and it looks like a collapse but really it is just return to the mean. At some point he has to have better players so that he can beat you multiple ways.

Need to know the Oklahoma-Augustana score first to know for sure

Nova and UNC are both in a league above ISU even and 2-3 leagues above Iowa.

It was Fran's coaching genius to get behind so much in the first half so he could trick Villanova into trying less earlier so he could win by losing by less. Probably deserves a lifetime contract.

Not that hard to do. Look at who those 10 games were against.

W Mich St w/out Valentine (lost first round of the tournament)
W @ Purdue (good win but lost first round of the tournament)
W Nebraska (LOL)
W @ Mich St w/ Valentine in his first start after surgery (lost first round of the tournament)
W Michigan (lost first round of the tournament)
W @ Rutgers (LOL)
W Purdue (good win but lost first round of the tournament)
L @ Maryland (Sweet 16)
W Northwestern (Not at tournament team)
W Penn St (Not at tournament team)
W @ Illinois (LOL)

I love seeing this from HokNation. I am worried that they will start to sour on Fran and run him out of town. Good to see that they have hope and are bring their A-game in rationalizing their program (EIU is better at this than any fanbase in the country). I think Fran has enough good-will to get through the two (at least) miserable seasons they have ahead of them allowing him to follow up with 2-3 more mediocre seasons.
