Doyle cost Epenesa millions

If you look at his production through out the year, he was really up and down. The first four games he did little to nothing, but he finished out the year strong. So the would have to scare scouts, and then his time in the 40 at the combine was the final straw.
The kid is a quality player, but at what position? Is he quick enough to line up as a DE and rush the passer or he better suited to be a DE that stunts inside when the ball is snapped?
As I stated before, his production during the season and his time at the combine cost him millions, he was a preseason top 10 pick, and he dropped to the 2nd round. Looking at ESPN big board, they have him as the # 8 best available player in the 2nd.

Hell of a drop for a player most thought would be in the top 10 overall last year.

Remember when some iowa state fans on this message board, much like yourself, came here and gave real facts on why Epenesa had regressed and lost millions but then we got completely b****ed at by Iowa fans and called names? Yea me too. Hate to see it when we are right.

You hate being right? Weird.

True but fans always overrate their own teams players. You really have to look at production from the player. In Epenesa they were saying he was being double teamed a lot, but when you watched the film, it just was not true.
My opinion, he was a 3rd down pass rusher his first 2 years at Iowa, he came in, and didn't have to worry about the run, just ears pinned back and rush the QB. This year as a starter, he really struggled deciding if it was a run or a pass play, and that led to slow decisions on his part. Now I will give him credit, by the end of the year, it looked like he had figured it out.

His combined stats were poor for a player at his position, that was just the final nail in the coffin for his 1st round expectations. I expect him to go 10 to 20 in the 2nd round tonight.

Not having a Pro Day on campus might have hurt him as much as any player in America. Maybe he wouldn't have improved his time, but at least he had another shot at it. In any event, I would be surprised if he wasn't chosen in the top half of round two. May not start in the NFL, but could be a good situational player.

I guess if you consider going from 1st team All-American in the pre-season to a 2nd team All-American at season's end regressing... sure.

So far 3 DE's have been picked, so ok he might be the 4th-6th best DE in the country. It is funny that Clone fans think trolling an All-American is getting one over on the Hawks.

Pretty sure Young is the only DE taken so far. Chaisson for LSU is a beast and comes off the edge but he's more of an OLB than a DE.

We are not trolling an All American, we are going after the Iowa fans that thought he was a top 10 draft pick, that he was the best DE in college football, and how many of you thought his lack of production early in the year was to him being double teams every play.
But when you watched the film, he was not getting doubled, he looked confused about whether it was a run or pass, and his ability to contain the edge. Now, like I said he did figure it out about half way through the season, but between his play on the field the first half of the season and his poor showing at the combine did him in.

That is what we are laughing at, Iowa fans that still thought he was a sure fire top to middle of the 1st round pick.

No one ever knows how a draft is really going to go down. Who'd have thought the second Ohio St. CB would go as high as he did, or that Tee Higgins would still be on the board with all the WRs that have already gone? How many ISU fans predicted Lazard going undrafted? If you want to frame the conversation around a coach costing a player millions in the draft, which is just pure stupidity, how much did CMC cost Lazard?

Not one bit of your analysis of AJ is true at all. If it were true AJ wouldn't have been 2nd team all American and likely 2nd round draft pick (or 3rd, or drafted at all).

You can't deny that Epenesa got slower and weaker by coming to Iowa. If he would have went to Oklahoma, Notre Dame or even TCU he wouldn't have sat in a suit without his phone ringing last night

LOL, 2nd team All American was better in HS. You crack me up sometimes with your trolls.

He was a 1st team All American in high school

I actually think his technique got better but he lost strength and speed from when he showed up to when he left. That's a fact
